If everyone is an asshole, then is no one an asshole?
Depends on who is more assholer, maybe.
Usually that means you're the asshole
People appear to misunderstand a little. Devil's advocate isn't a free pass to make any kind of argument you want or act like an asshole. Its purpose is generally to try to understand the perspective of another person you disagree with by coming up with a plausible, compelling (not strawman) argument.

Damn. Just recently I got banned in some community for playing the devils advocate… (Again)…
Reason: Flamebait and Agenda.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
No agenda, I am just enjoying discussions. And If I don’t manage to convince you, this means that I have reinforced your own opinions. And isn’t that a good thing from the other sides perspective?
I had the same thing on Reddit, got banned/downvoted even when I said "just playing devil's advocate"
It seems discussion is moving over for the new angrily shouting your opinion and ignoring any other information.
I think part of it is because tone and intention are very hard to convey over text.
I appreciate a good discussion, but am wary of getting into one online. Partially because I don't feel like overclarifying everything I say just in case it might get misinterpreted.

It is what it is.
If this keeps happening to you specifically, maybe the problem is you
What an ironic use of Devil's Advocate.
