Lemmy doesn't like Brave? Pretty broken in my experience.

Brave is a scam. It was already caught red-handed on meddling with people's privacy, and as such, should be avoided at all cost.

That's all I can say on the matter.

Lol, I told everyone years ago "Brave is shit, look at it's business model, you're gonna get scammed", everyone was like "Naaaah, it's cool, look how fast it is."... I don't even wanna say told ya now...

You weren't wrong.

Can you provide some examples? An initial search did not turn up any privacy complaints, so I am hoping for either some better search terms or an article on their mishandling of data.

What query did you use, and what were the results?

What query did you use, and what were the results? You're making the claim.

  • "brave privacy mismanagement"
  • "brave browser sharing data"
  • "brave browser security concerns"

What I have gotten is a link to a reddit post that I did not click on, some articles about managing privacy settings in the Brave browser, a piece on how Brave accuses Google of sharing / selling data, and a collection of "what is Brave" type articles.

Try...

brave browser scam

...but truth be told, the Reddit link should, probably, lead to useful links and discussions.

Thanks! Much better results with that.

As a Brave user, I'd like to know if I need to shop around for a new browser.

It all depends on your personal needs. If your Internet browsing consists of simple information gathering, some multimedia content then you can as well go with Edge, or even that privacy abomination that is Google Chrome.

But, if you care about your privacy, prefer to not cooperate with possible scammers, then the choice of a browser matters and a lot. I avoid like a plague every browser that was caught on invading user's privacy - I don't care about "we were wrong, sorry!" generic claims. Once a thief, always a thief.

What sort of issues have you been having? I use Lemmy in Brave and aside from wishing that certain buttons were easier to access, I have not had any significant issues since the 0.18 update.

Must be my non android Chinese phone then, when I clicked posts they wouldn't come up unless I refreshed the page. Couldn't post comments. Had to switch to Firefox.

All phones either use iOS, mainline Android, or a fork of Android. In either case, it's unlikely the OS causing this but Brave Shields just being a bit too aggressive. Try disabling it.

[–] LightDelaBlue 3 points 1 year ago

no. i use firefox

[–] abaixodecao 1 points 1 year ago

I use Vivaldi, and it works very well with Lemmy.

Have you tried disabling and/or lowering the aggression of Brave Shields for Lemmy? Only thing I can think of that'd cause issues.

[–] Camzing 1 points 1 year ago

Ah I didn't think of that thanks.
