It's trippy for such a technologically advanced country that they still do hangings

[–] [email protected] 25 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The Gundam Firing Squad is out for repairs, and they couldn't find a pen to write his name in the Death Note.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

This legitimately made me laugh

[–] [email protected] 19 points 10 months ago

They are very conservative and toxic in many things sadly. It doesn't sit right with their international image. The country of contrasts I guess.

I don't condone the death penalty.

But....

...that fucker killed 36 people by setting a building on fire. Let's suppose that a few of them didn't die by smoke inhalation, but actually being burned alive. That fucker burned alive people. One of the most painful deaths one can experience.

I'd say hanging (and again I don't condone it!!!!) is getting out easy.

But....

This is death penalty version of I'm not racist but

Considering how Japan's justices system is as bad as the US there definitely shouldn't be a death penalty in ANY circumstances

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Plus, that's just letting them off easy. Life in prison is a worse sentence.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

"Life in prison is a worse sentence" depend where

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Anywhere that still uses the death penalty, I'm guessing.

[–] elbarto777 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Which is part of my point.

"Poor baby is getting hanged!"

Dude, that poor baby burned people alive. Don't give him any sympathy.

I wouldn't kill him because I believe killing someone is not right, not because it's cruel.

[–] elbarto777 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

No, not really. Because if they asked me directly "hey, should we kill this motherfucker?" I'll say no. Even if I had supreme, absolute power. I'm the kind of guy who will catch scorpions in my house and release them in the wild.

I was just putting what the OP said into perspective: "how can ANYONE kill a poor person who burned alive innocent people in such a BARBARIC way that is by hanging?!"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

According to the autopsies most people died due to burns rather than smoke

Let the fucker hang, and that's the least we could do

[–] elbarto777 1 points 10 months ago

Ugh. Horrible.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Kinda sounds like you might be for the death penalty....

[–] elbarto777 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Nope. I already said that what I'm disagreeing with is OP saying that death by hanging is oh so barbaric, when the perpetrator burned people alive. Those victims didn't have the chance of dying by hanging.

It's like saying that I don't agree with physical punishment for misbehaving kids. Let's suppose that a kid skins another kid alive, and the father spanks him as punishment. I'll say "nah, that's wrong. Take him to a psychiatric center instead." And if someone says "so barbaric that the kid got spanked instead of getting his ears pulled, which is more common," I'll say "bruh, that kid skinned someone alive!"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yea, you sympathize and thus justify the secondary action. In this case that would be the death penalty.

[–] elbarto777 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Whatever you say, buddy. My abhorrence towards the death penalty is not up for discussion here, and I'm getting bored already.

Just rest assured that if you're ever on death row, and it's in my power to get you out of it, I will do it unconditionally.

Furthering this discussion is of no use to me. Have a nice evening.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Im not sure its any worse than any method done today outside of inert gas asphyxiation, which ironically has gotten a lot of pushback. If death penalty is done they should allow a choice of options a state could reasonably accomodate with the most humane one they can figure out as the default.

[–] elbarto777 2 points 10 months ago

Death by snu-snu.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I didn't think they still had the death penalty even.

[–] Candelestine 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Having seen and been moved by Violet Evergarden, which if I remember right was produced there, I have to say ... I think justice is served here.

The company is a rare bright spot in a very ugly and difficult industry.

[–] chuckleslord 8 points 10 months ago

I understand the sentiment... but murdering that many people is the bad thing. They don't need to be good guys for you to think their death was unjustified.

[–] aeronmelon 4 points 10 months ago

And continues to be.

After a few months break, those that were able to returned to work and went right back to cranking out amazing material and stories as if nothing had ever happened. No quality difference between the work done before the tragedy and the work done after. Bless all of them because they are clearly driven by a white-hot passion to create over anything else.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Out of the few kinds of crimes that I feel qualify for a Death Sentence...this is absolutely One Of Them.

[–] fidodo 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

There should be an extra clause for death penalties that they should only be given out in cases beyond physical impossibility as opposed to reasonable doubt. Reasonable doubt is not a good bar for killing somebody, but in this case there's no physical possibility it wasn't him.
