I had a friend that during the cold winter mornings would wake up and piss on his windshield to clear/melt the frost. He of course kept the vents closed so he couldn’t smell it on the drive. It really was disgusting, but made me wonder if he might’ve had a clever time saving idea.

It's a clever time saving idea in the same way that burning your house down is a heating bill reduction life hack.

[–] Coreidan 21 points 8 months ago

The vents aren’t a perfect seal. Piss is getting into the vents no matter what. That’s just filthy on many levels

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago (3 children)

How did he do it? Like, I could hit the windscreen from the ground but I doubt I could clear it... Would probably have to stand on the bonnet to get it clear with a morning wizz. I don't wanna stand on my bonnet. Maybe if I pissed out the window... 🤔

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago

You guys should maybe Google "homemade de-icer" before you start pissing on windows.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

Standing on the bumper might be enough, especially if it's the first piss of the day.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

A small container would probably work best

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

But also: eww

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How hot was his pee? Pretty sure it'd just freeze before it melted even a minor amount of ice

[–] [email protected] 11 points 8 months ago

I mean, it's 98.6F on average. If it's freezing that quickly then you're looking at some extreme temperatures.

Learn this one trick that doctors hate!

imagine having to prepare your vehicle before getting on your way in the winter

this post was made by public transport, walking, and biking gang

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago (2 children)

depends where you live.

if i had to get public transport where i used to live i would have to leave two hours before work

[–] woodenskewer 2 points 8 months ago

our local bus goes to grocery stores and that the most of it. if i lived near a retirement home, and worked at a grocery store or strip mall, i'd be set.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

right, so maybe the ability to not drive should be a part of how you decide where to live? i certainly wouldn't want to live somewhere where the only choice is driving

[–] [email protected] 7 points 8 months ago

I wasn't given a say in where my parents bought their house while i was in primary school

[–] yokonzo 8 points 8 months ago

Yeah it's -17⁰f, I ain't walking or biking and the bus only goes the opposite direction

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Scheduled auto start for the win!

I guess that depends on what you mean by "smart car". It's a 2021 Ford and the app let's me do scheduled starts. Turns on the steering wheel and seat warmers too.

[–] MashedTech 1 points 8 months ago

Oh wow. Cool. I don't personally keep up to date with current car tech.

[–] MaxVoltage 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

new cars aren't cool bro you have the subscription service ford lmao

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Ford surprisingly is one of the few that don't do this. At least for what I have anyways, but it's not base model.

The only thing I'll have to pay for to continue using is the GPS in another year or so. The app itself is free but pretty limited in overall functionality. Remote start, lock unlock, check tire pressure and oil life.

They only complaint I have is the damn windows take forever to thaw the seal enough to roll down unless I pull them back a little.

Inb4 someone turns their seatwarmers on in the garage, goes to eat breakfast, walks into the garage and gasses themself

[–] RagingRobot 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Electric cars don't have that issue

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

They have the F150 hybrid which engine cuts off when idling.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Incorrect, I have no garage..

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

If you're going to repost this at least do it on a weekday morning lol

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (4 children)

Wait, does everyone's car not simply defrost itself every morning at 6am?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

I'm lucky if my car starts in the morning

[–] MaxVoltage 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You know you can explode your engine like that lol

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

idling? idling in park will explode your engine? I'm a bit incredulous.

[–] MaxVoltage 4 points 8 months ago

its an old dads tale

[–] FleetingTit 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

What does that add to the discussion?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I apparently replied to the wrong comment I guess

[–] ShortFuse 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I remember that being a feature in my 2002 BMW. Unfortunately, a Double DIN stereo was more important than the native controls. So I lost the ability to schedule the auto start time.

Edit: "Auxiliary heating" is apparently what it was called.

I'm too tropical to understand this
