A man shot through a window and broke into the Colorado Supreme Court building early Tuesday morning and caused “significant and extensive” damage in several areas of the building before surrendering to police, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The man was involved in a crash about 1:15 a.m. near 13th Avenue and Lincoln Street a short time before he forced his way into the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center, which houses the Colorado Supreme Court, the Colorado Court of Appeals and several other state agencies, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release.

This comes two weeks to the day after the state Supreme Court ruled Donald Trump cannot appear on the state’s primary ballot based on his actions surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach and riot by his supporters.

Police were investigating threats made to the Supreme Court justices in the week after the ruling and increased patrols around their Denver homes following at least one “hoax report,” the Associated Press reported.

Denver police officers and CSP troopers set up a perimeter around the building, and the man fired at police, Denver7 reported. Police did not fire back.

Well now we know he was probably white and Republican. They love to light up minorities, but they'll take their buddies they agree with to Burger King on the way to the jail and high-five them before the mugshot.

Cops are conservative authoritarians, and so they vibe with these fucking freaks.

[–] DigitalTraveler42 71 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Meanwhile if it was a black dude the cops would accidentally shoot each other in their zeal to kill him.

[–] ViscountMochi@lemmy.zip 68 points 11 months ago (2 children)

They literally fired into a crowd of people when a black guy pulled out a gun in front of some bars downtown awhile back. Several innocent bystanders were shot by police.

[–] DigitalTraveler42 36 points 11 months ago

That's actually what i was referencing.

[–] agent_flounder 14 points 11 months ago

Odd. They usually don't even need to see a gun to start firing.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 49 points 11 months ago (2 children)

This guy held up a member of the Colorado State Patrol at gunpoint, stole his keys, then broke into a building and shot at the police. I'm amazed he's still alive!

White privilege.

Republican take on this news: “Totally peaceful tourist visit. Also, let’s impeach Biden”

[–] paddirn 99 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Terrorists. The whole MAGA cult is a bunch of terrorists.

Its the majority of the Republican Party.

This is from CPAC 2022, the largest PAC for just generally promoting Republicans, had a bunch of prominent and popular Republican speakers as well as less well known and more insane ones.

Its basically 'Oh my god, he admit it.'

They all kept joking about being Nazis, then got offended when people got offended by that, then doubled down to the point that most of them just became indistinguishable from Nazis, but have propagandized themselves so well that they think anything that is not them is Nazis.

You can try and talk with some of the more moderate ones and they will not explicitly support 100% exactly fascist policies all the time in their little dream world of 'my perfect candidate', but they'll almost always vote for a fascist over anything else.

The GOP was reduced to a criminal conspiracy when Ford pardoned Nixon.

Tell.me again how fascism isn't a real problem?

[–] BeautifulMind 55 points 11 months ago

Maga people said they would do this

Maga people called for things like this to happen

Maga people have been making threats that this sort of thing would be done

Maga cops can't figure out why anyone would do this

It's interesting how often in stories like this where someone is doing something extremely violent or antisocial (the clinical definition of the term, not "asocial"), it begins with a car crash.

It paints a picture of someone who's being manic, impulsive, and has shut their mind off to long term consequences.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 61 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Like that cop that crashed into a gay bar and then immediately arrested the owner? Yeah...

And the Uvalde shooter crashed his truck on the way.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

Disassociation is both blinders to their current actions and the consequences.

[–] Szymon@lemmy.ca 40 points 11 months ago

Republicans remove mental health supports across the country because that's how they grow their ~~militia~~ base.

[–] vanontom 27 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'd just like to thank this deranged (and armed) madman for taking himself out of society, without killing random people (and himself) like an absolute coward. It warms my heart to know that another one of those folks is no longer a threat. Happy holidays.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago

Wait Denver Police DON'T have to aimlessly shoot at armed or unarmed people? But they said they HAD to when they shot a bunch of innocent people at a food truck a couple months ago!

[–] Ghostalmedia 17 points 11 months ago (11 children)

Other reports show this might be a road rage incident with a nut job. Dude got in a crash with someone, pulled out a gun, and ended up breaking into the nearest building to hide.

The guy is bonkers, but it looks attacking the court wasn’t the primary goal.

[–] Furedadmins 8 points 11 months ago

Yeah, or that was his plan all along to throw off suspicion once he realizes his targets don't live there :tinfoil:

Don't really know why you're being downvoted. This very well could be the case. I'm a Democrat but some of the stuff I see on here is a bit disturbing with how assumptions immediately come into play with 0 evidence.

People on here that are Democrats scream the right is the reason for all the disinformation and everything they read and do is a lie and yet this entire thread is full of no proof and may be proven to be disinformation. It's gross. Currently there is absolutely no evidence there is a link to the trump situation and yet assertions are being thrown around. Be better people. I fully expect to be downvoted into oblivion for speaking the truth because everyone wants to point at the opposite political party in every damn instance instead of it possibly being some geeked the fuck out person not having a damn clue what's happening

"WeRe ThE pArTy Of EvIdEnCe" obviously not because there's none to back up these claims. If it comes out this is due to the trump ruling then shit on them I don't care but stop doing this shit it's disgusting. You're not being any better than the right

Can you really blame people for assuming the usual terrorists are responsible when an act of terrorism occurs?

[–] Ghostalmedia 3 points 11 months ago (19 children)

Terrorism is political or ideological. Is there any proof that this is actually terrorism, and not just someone having a mental health or substance crisis, or someone that was just a total piece of shit that was trying to flee an accident / assault with a deadly weapon incident?

The authorities didn’t think it was connected to the threats directed to the court.

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 months ago

The police said they don't think it was connected, but that doesn't mean it wasn't politically motivated, it could be a separate person from other threats. Though after seeing the picture of him and reading about it you're probably right. This article does have more info about the situation, apparently he drove to Colorado to see his kids, and he has drug problems.

Yeah, this thread feels like a textbook example of internet-age confirmation bias.

Dude totally might be a MAGA nut job who wanted to break into that building that night, but this is a thing that started with a car crash and an argument where one of the parties pulled out a gun, and then fled. That seems like a really weird way to start an act of terrorism. And, the authorities are publicly saying there is no connection to the threats that that the court has received from MAGA nutters.

If I was a betting man, my money would be on someone doing nonsensical shit while being fueled by drugs or alcohol. But I’m someone who lives in a big metro area where tweakers and crackheads do shit like this on the reg. So maybe I have a bias to associate this with crime patterns that I often see around me.

[–] SpezCanLigmaBalls 2 points 11 months ago

Yup. It's an incredibly bad look for everyone doing it

[–] PeckerBrown 11 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Every fucking stupid, terrible, thuggish, violent thing that a MAGAt does in Trump's name should be done to Trump. Live streamed on all known outlets.

[–] Daft_ish 7 points 11 months ago
[–] reverendsteveii@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago

this is terrorism. the republican party is a state sponsor of terrorism.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

How long until the right wing blames Antifa for this attack?
