Might not look like it, but they're clipped in.
So you'd roll off the ledge, crack your head against the rock face and then bleed out, NOT fall to your death ๐.
There are "carabineers" (quick-links) that are opened and closed with a wrench for permanent installations. Give the wrench to your buddy (or throw it of the edge ๐).
