Jesse's absolutely right. The only reason our politicians are governing us is because we let them. Occasionally they need to be reminded of that fact.

The reason our government governs us today is because they have an overwhelming ability to do violence on us, and the majority of us fear it, even if only subconsciously. If you think it's by our choice, you're utterly delusional.

You're right. I never signed a contract with the USA agreeing the current system is the best. We have our ancestors to thank for that, and even then, most of them had no control over the situation.

What's the best way forward here? Constitutional renewal every generation?

Constitutional renewal every generation?

Yes, especially considering that was the original intent of the document. Whether or not that's the most realistic, or even a possible way forward at this point is another question entirely, and I don't like what I think the answer is.

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Constitutional renewal every generation?

As a non-USA-Citizen, this is what always gets me about the originalists at SCOTUS: the idea of changing the constitution to reflect what the majority of US citizen believes is simply not possible anymore, because of outrageous distortions of the process. Given how unequal voters are distributed across states and the effective veto power of very small states, there is no way for the majority of people to do what the originalists demand: adapting the law so that no interpretation is necessary.

What makes originalism and those that represent it so incredible stupid is THAT THEY ADMIT THIS. Scalia used to chuckle in interviews when this was pointed out to him.

You should read Etienne de la Boetie.

Quick, ask the same politicians for more weapon control, that way you will truly be fucked!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes crazy people shouldn't have guns. It's not a hard concept nor is it hard to implement and control

[–] Shardikprime -2 points 1 year ago

It is good to know you are we should stop leftists from seizing power and military forces. Because crazy people shouldn't have guns. that would be peachy

[–] samus12345 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yes, your precious guns will definitely stop the police or military from oppressing you!

[–] Shardikprime -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Would have done marvels to protect my family from the sweeping wave of violence brought by the socialist party's government policies but then again we were well past the point of no return at that point

[–] samus12345 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Was referring to the US specifically.

[–] Shardikprime 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well this site is international so

[–] samus12345 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is it, but

ask the same politicians for more weapon control

sounds very American to me. Is demanding gun control a major thing elsewhere?

[–] Shardikprime -1 points 1 year ago

Not usually till the leftists get to power and crime skyrockets thanks to their bad economic policies.

[–] Lieuwe2019 -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And now Ukraine enters the conversation….

[–] samus12345 1 points 1 year ago

I was referring to the US specifically, as was the comment I replied to.
