This new bill, signed into law by President Joe Biden, includes a provision that limits access to gender-affirming care services for the children of people serving in the military.

Fuck off Joe. Stop doing Trump's dirty work for him.

Pocket veto that shit.

[–] MutilationWave 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This whole thread is fucking disappointing. Yes it's super shitty that tricare isn't going to cover trans kids. We just had a budget showdown where Elon fucking Musk tried to tank the entire nation. Biden signed this shit and said he hated that he had to do it because it excluded trans kids.

I'm no Biden fan but holy shit get your course corrected and get ready friends because this ain't shit compared to what's to come.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Agreed. The political ignorance of the common American is why it is so easy able to drive these wedges.

Anyone pissed at Biden about this is not a politically smart person and are easily manipulated becuase they not only lack political intelligence but lack the ability to gauge their lack of political intelligence.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They could have just not funded the government/military, I would be fine with that.

[–] Beetschnapps -2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Yea they could have. But Biden didn’t shut down paychecks for regular folks right at christmas…

You’d be fine with that.

[–] kreskin 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Biden had ample opportunity to end these budget hostage sessions, but he rejected them all.

[–] Beetschnapps 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

When did Biden control legislation? Did I miss him giving multiple vetoes to previous bills? The hell does this have to do with him and not every republican screwing up congress?

[–] kreskin 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

If the DNC had chosen to run progressive policies we wouldnt be here. But they didnt and here we are.

[–] Beetschnapps 1 points 22 hours ago

They should have. Obama running on “change” should have clued them into something. But still, Biden didn’t elect this congress, nor write this bill, nor did he cause this mess we’re in. It’s fair to say dems didn’t swing hard enough, but the GOP has an unrelenting presence, propelling the problem and yet getting votes. Thats on Fox News not Biden.

Better than picking disposable section of society to throw under the bus in the name of compromise, why do Trump's work for him?

[–] Beetschnapps -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

THAT IS picking disposable sections of society to throw under the bus. What are you taking about?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

"we just had to do whatever Trump wanted otherwise 'regular folk' might get affected slightly"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

You know, the "regular folks", the military members without trans children. Not the weirdos who also serve but have kids who are trans. It would be really tragic if the regular folks were inconvenienced.

[–] Beetschnapps -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yea do what trump wanted… like defunding the gov. What are you talking about?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

defunding the US military would be a great thing tbh

[–] AbidanYre 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's a lot more to the US government than just the military.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm aware, but it's still not vanishing overnight. We have had plenty of shutdowns in the past and this shit wasn't urgent.

[–] Beetschnapps 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Being smart about federal funding would be great. Your BS would be stupid.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean if the government shut down the US military doesn't vanish, we've had many shutdowns in the past, this shit wasn't urgent.

[–] Beetschnapps 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True. BUT… that doesn’t mean hurt doesn’t hurt.

It’s not a group that deserves sacrifice…

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not like those active duty servicemembers with trans kids. They're a group that deserves to sacrifice, and in major ways that go beyond a delayed paycheck.

[–] Beetschnapps -1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Biden. Didn’t. Write. The. Bill.

I agree with you, but let’s take this as far as it goes. Biden vetoes and then what?

The Republicans in congress suddenly change? Where’s the reality other than “Biden refuses to sign, no one gets paid this Christmas”. Veto power is strategic not really a blunt tool.

This isn’t a Biden thing it’s on the GOP and the voters that put them there. Congress wrote the fucking bill why is that Biden’s fault?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

It's amazing how you frame Biden's surrender as necessary and not the GOP's. They're responsible for the bill, but despite every other shutdown being blamed on them, would just then refuse to fund the troops they claim they love so much. You've so internalized "they're crazy, they'll do anything", which isn't actually how any of these confrontations play out, that you think the only reasonable solution is "just give them what they want".

[–] Beetschnapps 0 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

So it’s amazing how I understand the three branches…. How they work and how specifically they are breaking down…

[–] Ensign_Crab -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, they did deny lifesaving care to trans kids, and you support this bill for that reason alone.

[–] Beetschnapps 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

That’s a fuck ton to read into someone just saying we should pay people… but the trans BUT THE TRANS! No one is disagreeing with you but yourself. Well also the GOP… SO WHAT ABOUT THE TRANS!!!!

I mean for fucks sake we just had Elon Musk wave his dick around and influence this legislation and this whole thread is blaming Biden… some smooth brain shit going on here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The only thing it's denying is surgery that could cause sterilization. A thing that is pretty rare for children to undergo.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

HRT can cause sterilization. It's very safe, but it can. The UK conservatives just banned puberty blockers on the claim that it could cause sterilization. There's nothing reasonable about this innocuous line. It's a carte blanche to stop all coverage.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is that ever performed on minors for gender reassignment reasons anyway? It seems like a weird thing to ban. What's next, are they going to make it illegal to perform GRS on dead people?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It is, but it's not common. There's a metric fuck ton of hurdles that have to be jumped through, so it's basically just a dog whistle used to justify banning any gender affirming care.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, so same playbook as abortion with those scary 'late stage abortions' that are basically exclusively done to rescue people from dangerous and nonviable pregnancies.
