We learn something new every day. This is a community dedicated to informing each other and helping to spread knowledge.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Unless included in our Whitelist for Bots, your bot will not be allowed to participate in this community. To have your bot whitelisted, please contact the moderators for a short review.

So, a Greek guy in Canada made an Italian staple into something that he thought would represent a Hawaiian cuisine (even though it was just the can, many people naively believe it truly is a Hawaiian dish)

Once someone told me they thought that's how they ate their pizza over there. Lol.

Nevertheless, if I were in Canada at that time, I would have visited his restaurant and ordered one of the originals. It's not the best pizza topping but it is also not the worst. (I hate anchovies, fish of any kind or mushrooms on my pizza. Mushrooms are good in other dishes.)

Fun fact: Tomato is considered a fruit.

[–] HoneyMustardGas 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah but it is used as a vegetable. So is cucumber (but I haven't seen cucumber on pizza, but I have seen pickles on a cheese burger pizza). People don't like sweet/sour fruits on pizza. While tomatoes are often sweet, not as sweet as most fruits. All plants that are edible and come from flower ovaries are fruits: bell peppers, squash, eggplant.

Just a friendly reminder, pollen is plant cum. Enjoy that thought the next time you have a sneezing fit.

[–] HoneyMustardGas 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yea and we eat plant reproductive organs. But it doesn't surprise me because we eat "babies" ie chicken eggs. Young animals ie veal. Also, bees vomit the pollen they process in their stomachs onto the honeycomb. Nature is indeed wild, but we are notoriously wilder.

Chicken eggs aren't babies, they're not fertilized.

It is a lot more gross than it even sounds lol. I only saw someone eat it. They said they usually eat it in the dark because it is so gross.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Usually? Why do they keep eating it?

[–] HoneyMustardGas 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Idk it is a Philippines street food but someone brought it back from NY City apparently it's a street food there too for some events. It's like a tradition I heard from someone I know who is Filipino.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Tbh I would eat it if someone put it in front me, just for the experience.

Goddamn tree jizz!

Also, most fruits with 'berry' in the name aren't actual berries.

Bananas, grapes, eggplants and oranges, however, are berries.

I should have added that lol. Strawberry was one that surprised me a while ago. Never knew that they are in the rose family and flowers kind of.

And I was mad at animal crossing for putting bananas on palm trees . They are herbs and berries.
