I have not watched Steins;Gate. Is it good? Do I need to?
very much so, one of my favorites of all time
It's good but it's one those shows where I feel like you should avoid the fandom at all costs. Very high percentage of great examples of dunning-krueger who think they are big brain geniuses.
So the Rick and Morty of anime?
That... Is surprisingly accurate.
My personal #1. Well worth a watch
It is one of the greats. The story is tight, well executed and the characters and their development mesh with it. It’s one of the few stories that does time shenanigans well in a way that actually adds to the plot rather than being a gimmick or get out of jail free card.
I personally think it's just fine if you forget it's about time shenanigans and forget anything ever mentioned in a modern physics paper.
I get much of my enjoyment out of doing the opposite; pushing the narrative with "what-ifs" and seeing how far I can twist my understanding of reality to make the story plausible, so I very much didn't have a good time.
I watched it years ago and enjoyed it, but I am not sure if all parts of it hold up today.
Show??? Play the visual novel.
My god, are there people watching the show first??
That came off as some real superiority nonsense.
I genuinely believe that everyone's appreciation for both will be magnified by playing the game first. Then the show is an interesting view of what the director found to be the most important aspects of the story.
But a time travel story where you have agency as a player is high quality entertainment.
