No Stupid Questions

Mods, I know what this looks like, but this is legitimately the only place I feel like I can ask this questions. Please don't be mad

most of the nurses I work with, I don't care about them, but there are five that for whatever reason took an interest to teach me several little tricks that make my job run smoother.

Before I leave the unit and hospital, I'd like to give each one of them a small token of appreciation.

All of them are women, 2 of them are married, this is in no way whatsoever romantic.

i was thinking pastries but not for the whole unit, but for each of them.

Another option would be a flower for each one of them.

I don't know them that well personally, because I'm on the introverted side and like to separate my private life from my workplace.

and, are there specialties that require more dedication than others?

So I've just been thinking about privacy, and how everyone's location can be tracked. Then I realized: What about people who have no permission to enter the country?

Like do they just decide to not have a phone, or do they still have phones and just roll the dice and hope they don't get caught?

What is Britain?

Is it the same as the UK?

What is Briton?

Wtf is up with Canada?

Is it it's own country?

If yes, then why do they still salute the queen or king?

If no, how are they operating as it's own country?

Same for Australia I guess, too?

Was there an Australian revolution?

Are all parts of the British island the same country?

Or are Scotland and Ireland seperate countries?

This community is bizarre and probably the most genuine one I've stumbled upon. How do I consistently get more comments then updoots here?

Like people always say reddit is filled with bots, but I looked through the users of the top posts and didn't find evidence that they are bots.

Like how do you know who is a bot? Is there things to look out for?

Edit: And I'd appreciate it if there are real examples of bots getting caught and the evidence of them being bots.

Okay, so from my understanding and experience, too many ice breaker mints can cause stomach issues for you. Will sucking on them for approximately 1 minute then removing it from my mouth be a healthier way to consume and avoid the pitfalls of over icebreaker consumption?

Now that we have final numbers. It appears that Harris had all the white & black support she needed for an EC victory. But Trump outright flipping Latino men and making huge gains with Latino women seems to have made all the difference.

Sorry for mental health kind of question, but I do not know better place to ask about this stuff.

Nowadays, I lie down on a bed and just watch twitch streams all day, with a little bit of browsing lemmy in between. I do not want to do anything, pretty much any activity seems to cause exhaustion. So, I just do bare minimum and return to bed, watching twitch for over 5 hours.

Another is that I feel I cannot do anything good enough. I cannot study effectively, cannot do menial tasks without being stressed. This is especially concerning for me because I am taking a graduate program, but I also doubt I could do any kind of real work. I just don't think I have capability to read complicated texts and remember it clearly, write a decent piece of literature on some subject, or just about anything at all.

Is this related to addiction - can addiction make me feel exhausted all the time? Also, how can I escape this permanent lethargy? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I have a heavy crystal decanter I've been using for years. A while back I was having some guests for a week, and thought I'd save some money and grabbed a bottle of Jim beam to put in it, as opposed to the higher end I tend to go for, because none of my guest cared about Bourbon. I noticed the level going down further than I had consumed. This has never been an issue before, so I figured someone had just nipped it while o was asleep. The next day, there was condensation on the inside, and the level had dropped further.

Since I'd been using the decanter for so long, I assumed the frosting on the stopper had rubbed off and it no longer sealed.

When it was empty, I refilled it with larceny, my standard, and to my surprise, it didn't evaporate at all for weeks.

Last night, I refilled it with beam again, and this morning, it had dropped and there was condensation on the side.

What really confused me, is Jim beam has a lower alcohol content than the Bourbons I usually fill the decanter with, so I would think it would evaporate as readily.

Why does only this one brand evaporate?

Tldr: Why does Jim Beam evaporate in my decanter while nothing else does?

By "skilled immigrants" I mean people with advance degrees (PhD, MD, ...) holding all types of highly technical and managerial positions.

Asking this because skilled immigrants, at least in theory:

1. knows, and has first-hand experience of how much bullshit one has to go through to immigrate,
2. has enough bargaining power to move to another immigration-friendly country,
3. let's just say that the upcoming US policies don't seem to be friendly to any immigrants at all...

But then US tech and research are supported largely by the same skilled immigrants. So I'm curious how that is supposed to play out...

P.S.: I'm... not asking for a friend. I've been constantly worried for the past two weeks; I try not to rush to conclusions, so the fact that I'm still worried concerns me. Double quotation marks because in the US it's literally the same government agency that manages all immigrants no matter how they got in the country (highly skilled worker, family of citizen, asylum, literally just crossed the border, ...)

Why not just have an easy button that you can click saying Do Not Allow Reply All?

I know that there are some ways you can limit reply-all availability, like in the URL linked here. But there's a note: If recipients open this email in other mail applications except Microsoft Outlook, such as opening on web page via web mailbox, they can reply all this email.

I'm semi-tech savvy but I'm no programmer. It feels like it should be easy to do, so either I'm totally wrong or email services are really missing out on a great thing they could do.

I’d argue it’s an objectively true statement that, of all the people alive today, Putin has singlehandedly caused more death and suffering than anyone else. The gap between him and whoever is second is likely orders of magnitude. Yet, when I read discussions about him, Russia, or the war in Ukraine, I almost never see the kind of hateful, nasty, and mean comments directed at him that I regularly see aimed at Trump, Elon, or even ordinary Republican politicians. Why is that?

Bonus question: Why be so nasty about it in the first place? There’s nothing wrong with criticism, but I struggle to understand the need for such meanness. Even when I agree with the sentiment, reading comments like that feels toxic. It poisons my mind too. I don’t like being angry, and I avoid it for practical reasons as well. Anger clouds my judgment, and I think it does the same for others and thus should be avoided.

I try running, stair climbing and stretching every day and I try not to eat to feel full up. I don't know if this is a stupid idea, but I'm sure dieting involves feeling moderately hungry, which is what I do now.

Sometimes, after a long hard workday I feel so hungry I eat a lot for dinner, meaning I don't have to have breakfast before I start working out. I don't know if this is also a stupid idea. Do you have a small breakfast before starting your work out in the morning before going to work?

A variation of this involves eating only whole grains at night before going to sleep because sometimes that's the only thing at hand.

Should I change anything?

Currently, Google pays Firefox's bill by having them set their default search engine to Google.

This will no longer be when Chrome is in the hands of another party. DOJ is currently advocating for this forced sellout.

So will Firefox be no more after that?
