Well you can't interact with the beehaw server if you are from a blocked instance, I'm from lemmy.world so I guess I'm boycotting them but not by choice. I would not have cared at all but they my instance got blocked so I had to unsub from all beehaw communities since it's useless to be subbed from a blocked instance. I'm not going to make another account just for beehaw. Beehaw has blocked over 200 instances, so it's nothing new for them. Beehaw will not federated again unless lemmy devs meet their demands. Idk. I think the whole thing is dumb, if you go on beehaw you can read their POV. You have to be nice when interacting with beehaw or else you get banned. Only 4 admins moderate all of beehaw. Enough trolls go on beehaw and your instance gets blocked because that's the only thing the admins there know how to deal with it. I'm not aware of a boycott, but wouldn't be surprised if people are upset.

I use k18, it makes my hair a lot curlier after using it. My hair is high porosity so damaged but I have not bleached it (ever) and I have not used an iron in 7 years. I have used a blow dryer with a diffuser for about one year, before that I air dried.

It's been a hot minute since I played sims 2 but I liked how the babies were done. They weren't in a burrito (sims 3) and they weren't treated as an object (sims 4).

I used to air dry for like decades and man it would take too long to dry. CGM calls blow dryers blow fryers but I think they can be helpful with proper use. I also finger detangle when my hair is wet with lots of conditioner in it. I can wash once a week with a mid-week refresh but since I've been adding hair growth oils to my scalp every day I wash twice a week. The oils are probably doing nothing but I figure it can't hurt to try. My hair is down to my tailbone so I try to be very gentle with it, treat it like lace. I've also tried co-washing and it was just not good enough for me, kinda weighs everything down.

The only product I tried on this list is the ouidad advanced climate gel white bottle, it gives me medium hold. Works good enough for me but I have not tried the red bottle which is supposed to be a strong hold. Everyone's hair is different though, like for me I do not have thick hair so I do not need a hard hold. I am a product junkie but I could not afford to test out all these products welshiecurlgirl used lol.

I love how much volume you can get with natural hair.

Natural hair is POWERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, VERSATILE, PROFESSIONAL and so much more!!!

A small reminder: My natural hair Is NOT something « exotic », something you can touch with no permission, it is NOT an object, NOT fake, NOT a mane, NOT a bush, NOT something I must hide, NOT prettier when it’s straight etc…etc… These are some words that I have already heard towards my hair throughout my life. I know that as a teenager these words were so offending to me but now these words do not hurt me no more. Just watch your mouth before speaking because it can be harmful and it can ruin self-esteem. Think before you speak because WE ARE TIRED of hearing those bad projections and stereotypes about natural hair. Natural hair is POWERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, VERSATILE, PROFESSIONAL and so much more!!! PERIODTTT ✊🏾👩🏽‍🦱🗣️ ! Put « 🙋🏽‍♀️ » if you agree in the comments.

Here's an excerpt from the science-y hair blog about when to add protein:

Whose hair needs the extra boost protein can offer? As a generalization: ©Science-y Hair Blog 2013

People whose hair is losing more water than it should - porous or damaged hair.

That means:

Bleached or highlighted hair

Chemically relaxed or permanent waved hair

Hair that has been frequently brushed

Hair you take swimming frequently in chlorinated pools or salt water

Hair that spends several hours each week under the full sun (winter in higher latitudes might not matter as much)

Some hair that tends to be dry no matter how much oil and conditioner you use

Hair that has been styled with high heat - flat irons, curling irons, hair dryers on "hot."

People whose hair needs conditioning, but cannot take a lot of added weight. That's you, fine-to-medium-haired people, or anybody with silky, soft hair. Protein can bulk your hair up a little and add strength.

Who needs to approach protein with caution?

If your hair is quite coarse (wide hairs), it may not tolerate protein very often. Or it may tolerate the smaller proteins and amino acids.

Coarse but porous hair may tolerate (and benefit from) protein more than coarse, lower porosity hair.

Humidity, Dew Points, Humectants, and Hair (diana-cdn.naturallycurly.com)
submitted 2 years ago by curlygirl to c/curlyhair

It's summer and the place I live is even more humid than normal. I thought I would share some information about humidity, dew points, humectants, anti-humectants, etc. I hope you find this informative!

Relative humidity: The relationship between the vapor pressure or vapor density of the water in the air at a specific temperature versus the saturated vapor pressure of water at that temperature.

Dew point: A higher value for our dew point means a higher concentration of water vapor in the atmosphere, and a lower dew point means less moisture is in the air.

Humectants: Molecules that possess atoms and groups of atoms that attract and bind water to themselves. Examples: glycerin, agave nectar, honey, algae extract, hydrolyzed collagen, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, hyaluronic acid, sorbitol, glucose, fructose, and hydrolyzed proteins

Film Forming Humectants: Forms flexible barriers that retain water in your hair. These are safe to use in low dew points because of the film (cast) they form. Examples: flaxseed, okra, aloe vera, hydroxyethylcellulose, pectin, xanthan gum, guar gum, marshmallow root, slippery elm, carrageenan (also known as irish moss or seaweed extract, sea emollient, sea algae, sea vegetable), nettle leaf tea, nettle extract, panthenol, and hydroxypropyltrimonium honey

Anti-humectant: Does not attract water molecules to itself, water repellent/insoluble in water, and typically coats, flattens, and seals the external cuticle layer of the hair strands. Can also include emollients which are plant oils, but can cause buildup or be too heavy for certain hair types. Examples: silicones, esters (such as isopropyl palmitate), hydrogenated castor oil, beeswax, and plant triglycerides such as coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, mango butter, cocoa butter, and shea butter.

Humidity Resistant Ingredients: Helps your hair tolerate excessive moisture in the air. Many of these ingredients do build up, you need to make sure you clarify regularly. Examples: polyquaternium-4, polyamide-1, polyquaternium-10, polyquaternium-69, polyquaternium-11, PVA/VP Copolymer, VP/DMAPA Acrylates Copolymer, polyacrylate acid, and polyacrylate-2 crosspolymer

Dew points below 35°F

A humectant applied to your hair might be irresistibly drawn to the moisture in your hair and make every attempt to steal it from you (by drawing it out of your hair and binding it to itself). This can result in dry, fly-away hair, split ends, and broken strands. You can combat this by using plenty of moisturizing products, not over-drying your hair (leave it somewhat moist after washing), and layering leave-in conditioners with humectant-containing styling product. Use leave in conditioners, light hold products, and plenty of emollients.

Dew points from 35°F to 60°F

Curly hair seems to really thrive in moderate climactic conditions, and dew point ranges of approximately 35°F to 50°F seem to be optimal. In this type of weather, most curlies find that they can get really pleasant results by using products that contain some humectants. There is just enough moisture in the air that the humectants can grab a little from the environment, which can enhance the curl and create a bouncy feeling to the hair.

Dew points of 60°F or above

Might be a good idea to apply some product with anti-humectant properties. These products will seal the hair shaft, flatten the cuticle and prevent atmospheric moisture from absorbing into the interior of your strands. Most of these products will contain ingredients that are water insoluble. However, many of these products contain ingredients which are easily removed with an extremely mild shampoo or perhaps even a thorough conditioner wash. May skip a leave in conditioner, use hard hold products like gels. may want to avoid humectants, and use emollients.

Hi, I made this community today. It's going to be about all things curly hair! I also will not remove posts about perms or straightening which r/curlyhair does. I want there to be a more casual feeling to ask and answer questions, have discussions, post your pictures, memes, resources, etc.

r/curlyhair went dark (self.curlyhair)
submitted 2 years ago by curlygirl to c/curlyhair

It's official, the protest has started, r/curlyhair is now private. I noticed it a while ago, I thought the protest started tomorrow so I was surprised. I feel bad I didn't think of this idea sooner, maybe more people could have seen my post on there. I posted about this community on r/curlyhair and when I went to check on my post, it was already too late. I posted in r/wavyhair, r/curlygirl, and r/curlyhaircare. Hopefully the word gets out.

I don't want to use reddit if I can't use infinity. I thought maybe I could browse in my mobile browser but apparently reddit is testing to see if they can block people from browsing in the mobile browser so they are forced to use the app. It's infuriating when all I want to do is see the latest news and check out the curly hair communities. I might be done with reddit for good next month. It's a shame because r/curlyhair was one of my favorite subreddits to check, even though it's mostly just selfies.

Hi, I just discovered lemmy because of the drama going on with reddit. I thought it would be great to have a community alternative to the curly hair subreddits, especially with the upcoming protests. I'm going to be still working on things since I'm new to lemmy, but I hope everyone feels welcome to post and discuss about curly hair!
