A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/[email protected])

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

[email protected]

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Made a community for those who make analog note taking a big part of their lives. Whether it's the notebooks themselves, pens and other tools, journaling, or anything in the sphere of notebooks, I wanted to make a place for people to share.

Hi I just made a community board for CF Montréal which is a soccer (or football for the rest of the world haha) team from Montréal, Québec, Canada. Content will be in French from me, but you can also post in English since Montréal is a bilingual city. (Most people there speak both languages)

I couldn’t find an active one ( and wanted to share the love for it ) so here you go. I’ll try to be as active as possible and post for every game. I hope you give it a look 👀

There are a number of video-related communities, but unless you just want to watch music videos all day, most of the posts might be too long to get into. Either you don’t have the time or just can’t handle a 45-minute lecture on serif fonts.

[email protected] - for videos under 10 minutes.

[email protected] - for videos under 5 minutes.

If you have some good additions for these communities, please contribute. If not, subscribe anyway. I will be posting semi-regularly to both of them. Have fun!

Welcome to [email protected]! This is a community for the offbeat, surrealist webcomic known as The Perry Bible Fellowship. It blends dark humor and a whimsical child-like drawing style.

I'll be posting all of the older comics in order once per day, along with new comics as they're posted. Come join us and post comics you like, comment, or just lurk and enjoy them!

Hey everyone!

I hope this post does not break the rules, last year I ran Lemmyvision a song contest on Lemmy, and I'm excited to announce that the second edition is now live!

For those not in the loop, here's how it works:

TL;DR

  • From right now and until April 1st, discuss with your country’s community on Lemmy about which song to send to the contest.
  • Submit the song in this community by makign a new thread.
  • On April 2nd, voting will begin, where you will rank your favourite songs in a form. Any song not submitted by this date will not be featured.
  • On April 8th, results of everyone’s favourite songs will be published.
  • You can use [email protected] for any question, this will be the community for updates and results, make sure to subscribe if you’d like to stay in the loop.

You can find all the information needed on this post : https://jlai.lu/post/15932635

Cheers!

I've had some trouble finding new demos to try on the latest Steam Next Fest, and realized that I've never seen a community dedicated to posting free playable demos. If you've found cool new demos on the Next Fest (or anything before, really), I hope you'll take a moment to post them!

This community serves to be similar to Internationale except you can post almost anything and connect with people who speak different languages.

Buyeuropean is a place where people can discuss to buy products and services from the European Union, and also from the UK and all the countries located in Europe. We have been alive for several weeks now.

From digital products and services and subscriptions to groceries clothes, stationery, etc. Also to discover new shops and retails to buy.

We hope to help people interested in buying european goods to stop depending on products and services from the USA to find something they need, and also to share what european brands and products they know!

There's a lot of good protest going on right now. It is not enough but it is encouraging. If any good solution is to be had for the horror that is happening now, it lies in the groundswell of yelling and resistance that is developing on the ground.

It's good to hear what is happening, and what's coming. It's good to hear what events look like on the ground. It's good to hear reasons for hope, outside of the system of "politics" and "political news" which is mostly discussing the current system's total abject failure to do anything useful.

That's the main focus for this community, although individual writers may cover all kinds of topics. I'm also open to recommendations.

cross-posted from: https://walledgarden.xyz/post/2295733

Hello again All,

I’d like to get everyone up to speed on what’s been going on with walledgarden.xyz and where it’s going in the near future. I’ll keep this as brief as I can but there’s a lot to cover. TLDR at the bottom.

First and most important- As of March 1st 2025 WG will effectively shut down. Local communities will be locked but the instance will stay open for at least all of March so that local users have time to migrate their accounts.

  • Why? What does this mean? WG was initially set up as a private instance to learn about and experiment with Lemmy. With that mindset a lot of things were tested on the live instance before we started hosting communities and users. A new instance or test environment should've been put in place back then, but it wasn't. That's on me and I apologize. Many of these things are difficult or impossible to reverse while the instance is available to the public and are causing stability problems for the users and communities we host. This isn't the experience we want to offer. The difficult decision was made to shutter this instance and start fresh on a new one. We decided that it would be better to offer people a new alternative that doesn't suffer from the same problems we have on WG before the communities or user numbers grow any larger. WG will eventually become the test environment for the new instance.

  • What happens to the users and communities you host? The local users are who will suffer the most from this and for that I am genuinely sorry. Local users will have until at least the end of March to migrate before any kind of reset is done. This should offer plenty of time to get your new accounts setup. If anyone is having trouble shoot me a DM and I'll do whatever I can to help out. Our current users are welcome to join us on the new instance- https://crazypeople.online/. The last few days have been spent launching and populating that instance with new versions of the communities you’re used to seeing around WG. Here’s a list of our local communities and their new homes:

I encourage those of you who previously participated in our communities to join us again at our new home.

One final thing to note is that crazypeople.online will not be federated with lemmy.world until after they complete their upgrade. That could be any day now unless they push the date back. The older version of Lemmy they run can cause problems for smaller instances that I’d like to avoid on the new one. This decision isn’t meant to be political or controversial and is based strictly on performance goals.

TLDR

  • WG is becoming a test instance.
  • Users have until at least March 31st 2025 to migrate.
  • Replacements for our communities have already been set up at https://crazypeople.online/.
  • crazypeople.online will be our public facing instance going forward, open to old WG members and anyone else who needs a place to call home.
  • crazypeople.online won’t be federated with lemmy.world until their planned update.
  • Don’t test in production.

I've created four new #Piefed photo-based communities. They are:

  1. [email protected]
  2. [email protected]
  3. [email protected]
  4. [email protected]

I'll mostly be using these communities to post photos from #Akkoma and #Pixelfed. Not only will they categorize these photos in a coherent manner, they'll be open for other contributors, and also be easy to moderate.

Why not use hashtags instead? Simple: anyone can use a hashtag and no one can moderate them. Which means they're easy to spam.

For my purposes, groups are simply better.

Around two years ago, I created @[email protected] -- which proved to be one of the most popular Friendica groups ever. Unfortunately, I had difficulty moderating that group and so I decreased my posting there. However, I saw that Piefed has a much more advanced moderation toolkit, so I'm migrating that community over there.

If you still follow @[email protected], be sure to follow [email protected] -- since that Friendica group will be shut down soon.

So... I created an unofficial mirror here:

If you're on Bluesky give them a follow there as well please, and have a look at my Daily Bunnies custom feed

Can't be bothered to read the whole news article? Get a quick AI summary in the post itself. Uses a specialised summariser (not just asking an LLM "summarise this"). Summaries are 60% identical to human summaries and >95% accurate in keeping original meaning.

News summary had moved to [email protected] the bot has been updated to use a better we scraping method and improved summarisation.

If u don't like this please just block the community no need to complain or downvote.

Heyo, i created a community a couple of days ago specifically dedicated to reviving dead (unmoderated and inactive) communities. I realized that a lot of great communities i like are actually unmoderated, and i obviously can't mod them all; so why not create an archive of all of them?

If you have a community that you like, but it is dead: you're more than welcome to post on here!

I created the popular [email protected] several months ago.

In the interest of decentralization, I decided to create an independent instance.
