My first computer didn't have hard drive at all. 5.25" floppy drives.

My first PC with a hard drive used an ST-506 interface w/molex and data and control cables. 40MB. I couldn't imagine ever filling the whole thing.

It's all so much easier now.

Damn, I'm old.

Hmm. Pennsylvania. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Philly.

Yeah, I was gonna say, are you sure it's just a sprain?

Nope. Johnson.

No, not that one.

Andrew Johnson.

So many ways it could have been better.

He could have punished the Southern Aristocracy for starting the civil war. He could have ensured that the evil that led us there was exterminated forever.

Failing that, they could have actually removed him via impeachment instead of falling just short. That would have at least established forever that the presidency is not some sacred "unimpeachable" office.

They shouldn't have settled for just one year.

You can't unlock the new fear. You have to read the instructions for the new fear to know how to operate the new fear's manual release.

I agree. I think we're at the stage where the Democrats are the Whig party. They aren't going to change, they need to be replaced with a true progressive party.

Assuming that we continue to be as much of a democracy as we were, now might be the time for that replacement to happen.

Every four years Jill Stein emerges from her burrow. If she sees her shadow, it will be four more years of fascism.

Rose napping (lemmy.world)

When my wife gets her out, Rose always puts her head down and takes a nap.

When she wakes up, she has to go right back to pee.

Edit: I mean Rose has to pee right away. My wife isn't as consistent.

I saw the post about Eastern State, then I posted about the Pennsylvania Hospital Pine Building. What are the other weird or interesting things to do or see in Philadelphia that you think more people need to know about?

Historic Hospital Tour (www.pennmedicine.org)

If you're in Philadelphia and want to do a historic tour some afternoon, there's one that I think many people are unaware of.

You can tour the Pennsylvania Hospital original building. East wing was first opened in 1755, West Wing in 1796, and center in 1804. You can visit the original surgical amphitheatre, the medical library, and see the hospital's fire engine.

This morning I was driving to my son to swap vehicles when I encountered road work on Moyamensing.

Blocking the only road that leads to his apartment.

When I got back to my office, I had to check Google maps to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Lost all contacts (self.android)
submitted 1 year ago by NABDad to c/android

Just lost all my contacts in my Android phone.

Galaxy S10, Android v12.

Tried different contact apps, tried rebooting, tried googling (yes, Internet, I have the apps set to display all contacts).

Tried restoring contacts, and it says 0 restored.

They're still in Gmail, so I tried exporting them and importing them onto my phone, but the phone won't let me select the file.

I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a factory reset.

Any other suggestions before I bite three bullet and wipe the device?

Rose spins like a top. Daisy not so much.

Simple question. Which distribution was your introduction?

For me, it was SLS Linux in '92-93, followed relatively naturally by Slackware, which was followed by Redhat.
