Hard to believe but still true: Some time ago even Onlyfans, which was originally intended as a platform for fitness videos and the like, tried to ban NSFW content for exactly the same reason - to the surprise of absolutely noone it wasn't a very successful endeavor and was quickly withdrawn.

Isn't NSFW stuff a big part of all reddit OC content and the reason many still have an account there?

I think the best thing to do is just completely ignore everything the guy says. Don't feed the trolls.

As a German, I don't think it's much different here than in the US or elsewhere: anyone who is halfway rational has long been able to see how dangerous and inhumane the Nazi ideology is that Musk, Trump and the like represent. Musk's Nazi salute changes little on what people say about him, simply because it has long been very obvious what he stands for. Those who pretended not to know were just looking for excuses to convince themselves they were still good people for sympathizing with those fascist ideas; they somehow try to convince themselfs that they are not Nazis. These people will just carry on as before. They will continue to look for excuses. Unfortunately, that is exactly what people did before Hitler took power. We all know how that ended.

No, lemmy.world should not censor itself. I can decide for myself which link I click on. If people think they have to link to Twitter, then let them do it. I will never do that and I will never follow Twitter links. But I would still like to be able to do so on principle.

I also think that many Europeans are pessimistic about the future. The reason for this is Musk, Trump and their cronies. It is the lingering concern that things could get as bad in Europe as they are in the US.

Yes, and unfortunately that's why the world is the way it is. If empathy, creativity and humility were the values that would take us forward in society, everyone would be better off. But that's a utopia that will never happen, I'm afraid. Because there will always be people who take advantage of the good nature of others to gain an advantage for themselves. That seems to be human nature - and will also be the downfall of humanity, I think. The tyranny of selfishness, built on the shoulders of good people and only made possible by their ruthless exploitation.

I see this, realize that it must be nearly impossible to clean those monstrosities and just say "hell no".

I have the impression that the lion's share of all posts on Lemmy are reposts or screenshots from other platforms. I don't mean links to other sites of course, after all Lemmy is a Reddit clone and thus a link aggregator. I just think that Lemmy can't survive if there is no way to make people aware that a particular post is OC to a fediverse-Plattform. I suspect that the Lemmy community would appreciate the effort that went into creating OC that wasn't posted anywhere else - there's just no way to tag Lemmy OC.
