If we don't defederate from the outset I'm just gonna join another instance that did. I didn't sign up for Lemmy because I wanted fucking twitter.
What the fuck did I miss?!
I've been a few times over about 15 years or so. This was out in the woods, using gas-powered guns.
They've always been free sessions and they generally just allocate people on teams randomly, so there's no promise the people you go with will be on the same team or not.
It really is just luck of the draw for the most part. Some people get stuck in, others don't.
Don't bother wearing loads of layers - it won't make a difference when you get hit. You'll be better off making sure you're comfortable.
Plus, your mask is going to fog up, so the cooler you can stay, the less trouble you'll have with it.
No idea of that helps, but take it for what you will!
Their gross treatment of mods and developers.
I used to mostly lurk, occasionally comment and infrequently post, but I understand and appreciate the work mods and developers do.
Reddit is just another big company that's trying to get rich off free labour with no regard for the people it hurts along the way. Fuck em.
Smash Mouth were always the heroes we deserved, but not the ones we needed...
Yup. The opportunities to enter the service are there.
It's retention that's dismal. They learn the skills then take them elsewhere.
And I honestly don't blame them one bit. It's very, very taxing and important work that isn't recompensed properly.
You just know it's going to be riddled with micro-transactions, log-in bonuses, a couple of premium currencies, timed exclusives etc etc etc...
They're all talented players who add something to our game, for sure, but I guess I just miss the days when we had Dembele in the middle, who you knew you could rely on to resist the press and not get muscled off the ball.
Very good business, for once.
Still desperately need to sort out CBs, and I'd like to see more physical strength in midfield, but it's been a good start to the window for us.
I'm reading all the footnotes, although admittedly somewhat glossing over the ones which are purely citations, making reference to other books/magazines which may or may not even exist. I still try and read their titles though as they sometimes give a little insight to underlying themes.
The only thing I'm not doing it skipping about within the book itself, like where it says to check an appendix for more info - I figure I'll get to those bits in due course, and don't want to break-up the flow too much, or inadvertently lose my page ๐
Whether or not that's the "right" way to go about things, I couldn't say.
What I'm struggling with so far is that the language itself can be quite tricky in places (mostly the main body of text discussing the Navidson Record so far), and when Johnny's sprawling footnotes start getting a bit nonsensical. Neither points are huge issues - you just have to pay attention with the former, and roll with the latter - but they do have me re-reading the same sentence over again in places where I'm trying to keep up ๐
As I say, enjoying it so far, but you've got to really engage.
Goddamn, I wish I could get the crema on my cafecito to look like that ๐
