Lol I literally just thought to myself before scrolling to your post "I think I've seen 25 communist themed posts in an hour"

my other thoughts "wtf is 196?" And "Rule?!" Guess I missed the memo.

politic it up people, I personally dgaf. In the end, though: generally speaking, glorifying shitty people is glorifying shitty people, imo.

196 is some meme sub from reddit, the rule is you gotta post a meme or some shit like that.

[–] MiddleWeigh 2 points 2 years ago

Ahh thanks! I keep seeing it along with like a picture of Castro or smth so I was confused lol. I think that's just the thumbnail for one of the servers lmao

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah 196 has been a thing for years, reddit just hushed them and other disproportionately active subs down with their algorithms to stop them taking over all, which is fair enough really as it's good to have a mix of subs as long as there's still a chance for each to show

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. I only started using reddit regularly like a yr ago so lot of this stuff over my head.

Image transcription: 2 symbols appear side by side. On one side, something that shines light over the dark. Commonly used to lift people up from dark places, by academics who like to read theory, or to tell scary stories around a fire as a recreational activity. On the other side, a flashlight.

Look, it is a really nice custom flashlight

I'm using the Jerboa app which has a dark mode. It's a good experience so far.

Sucks that so much of Lemmy is run by tankies

I'm hanging around because it's the most stable alternative right now, but once it matures a bit and gets an app, I'll likely move over to kbin instead.

At least lemmy.world seems sane.

Lemmy already has at least two apps (on Android). Lemmur and Jerboa.

[–] lp0101 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I meant an app for kbin. I'm posting this off Jerboa right now :)

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Jerboa is developed by one of those people the mastodon post is talking about.

Oh God really?

[–] lp0101 -2 points 2 years ago

Lovely. I hope the fediverse continues to grow as it is now until tankies are just a fringe minority again.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

True. But as more normal people find Lemmy, eventually they'll be outnumbered. lemmy.ml and lemmygrad are already starting to ice themselves out of a lot of instance through overly heavy moderation and pro-fascist censorship.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah there's some gross communities here but hopefully the tankies get overshadowed by all the normal people.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hmmm... dehumanizing the "other". Where have I seen this rhetoric before?
