The Guardian legit just made me LOL:

"At 70, West is seven years younger than the most likely Republican candidate, the former president, 91-time criminal indictee and adjudicated rapist Donald Trump."

[–] Darkncoldbard 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sounds like a boxer being announced

walks out to "Fat Bottom Girls" doing his patented double-jackoff dance move

[–] Tedesche 59 points 1 year ago

West, despite being younger than Biden, is apparently having a stroke.

[–] Additional_Prune 48 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Put "Cornel West says" at the start of the sentence so we can all ignore what follows.

[–] paf0 1 points 1 year ago

I don't think he's wrong on this, but he's still Cornel West.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (4 children)

This won't happen unless it looks assured that Trump won't win. That's basically the only reason Ole Joe has stuck around.

[–] 0110010001100010 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That’s basically the only reason Ole Joe has stuck around.

He basically straight-up said that:

If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running

  • Joe Biden
[–] givesomefucks 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah, but he also said in that same interaction that "at least 50" other Dems can beat him.

So its not that he thinks he's the only one that can beat trump and that's why he's running.

It's either a pride thing, or similar to Hillary he thinks trump is the easiest possible opponent and he's will to risk it so he can be president

[–] stevehobbes 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think you’re misunderstanding those two phrases.

“I think I can beat trump” and “50 democrats at beat me” does not mean that “50 democrats can beat trump”.

Primaries are different than general elections.

[–] givesomefucks -1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

...

In what world would the "him" Joe Biden is saying 50 other Dems can beat referring to anyone besides trump?

And why are you talking about primaries?

The party won't support a primary against Bide as an incumbent. So there just flat out isn't going to even be a primary.

[–] GardenVarietyAnxiety 1 points 1 year ago

I think it's spite.

[–] jordanlund 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That actually wouldn't be a bad scenario:

Trump gets convicted, sent to jail, is no longer the nominee, DeSantis or Haley gets the nod at the RNC in July.

Biden goes "thanks but no thanks" and either Harris or Newsom gets the nod at the DNC in August.

There is a full month between the Republican and Democratic nominations.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ew. The democrats are creepy. Just ew….

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Both parties are just as bad -- look at me posture! Notice me senpai. Dude there is no comparison in american politics right now. One is not left enough and the other is proto fascist. Fuck out here with that rhetoric.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just an fyi you are blindly repeating corporate media talking points without reading what you are responding to or reading what you are saying. It doesn’t make any sense.

No one said the things you are saying they said.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

That's rich coming from somebody who's repeating conservative propaganda that "both sides are bad". Even if there are things you don't like about the Democrats it's not even a fucking choice at the moment.

Also I attacked you for your both sides attitude. If this attitude becomes prevalent in the United States the election goes to Trump which would be very very very bad indeed, and frankly it's just doesn't align with reality. Where exactly did the corporate propaganda touch you?

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he resigns within the first year.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

No this man is serious about his commitments. I don't think he would. People said this BS during the 2020 elections and yet here we are.

[–] FuglyDuck 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No… that’s the only ~~reason~~excuse Biden is giving.

Probably because he can’t say the real reasons. Which, if you take it at face value… it’s a joke because if he stepped aside for someone else, all the “vote for Biden or else” crowd would happily switch to thst someone else.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Hahaha your very idealistic.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

How high is this dude…wtf. Dude, you’re all over the map and need to take a long weekend away from microphones.

Make it a month. Make it six.

I used to have a ton of respect for this guy, but lately, a lot of the stuff he’s been saying has not made any sense. I don’t know what’s going on with this guy.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He took money from Harlan Crow so that says plenty enough about what he says.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

he gave that back. i think he should take money from every rich sucker who will give it to him.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

While I understand your point, it often creates issues beyond optics.

[–] PrinceWith999Enemies 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I had a poster of him on my wall at one point.

I’m just so disappointed. Like Jill Stein is aware, running for president as a third party candidate is a grift. He’s not getting the word out there any more as candidate West than as Dr. West, who could basically just walk onto any news show and get an interview. I can’t imagine he doesn’t know that.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago

Well, Cornell is going to look like an idiot again when this also doesn't happen.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well it sounds better than, "I'm getting paid to split the Democratic vote."

[–] banneryear1868 -1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

He might attract a segment of antiestablishment Trump voters as well who no longer support Trump. Likely the Bernie/Trump supporters, or the 13% of Trump voters who supported Obama. Trump arguably won because of Obama-Trump voters.

[–] FlyingSquid 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

West told Politico he might end up running against a “B team” of younger Democrats including Gavin Newsom, governor of California, and Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, because Biden was “running out of gas”.

So even if Biden dropped out, West would still run as a spoiler? The gall of this man...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

West would still run as a spoiler

no. he's running as a candidate.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

He's going to have one hell of a moment if he winds up being wrong.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

April Fool's, three-plus months early

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Joe Biden will “have an LBJ moment” and decide not to run for re-election next year, the leftwing academic and independent presidential candidate Cornel West has predicted.

West was referring to the moment on 31 March 1968 when Lyndon B Johnson, in office since the assassination of John F Kennedy in November 1963, announced that he would not seek re-election.

At 70, West is seven years younger than the most likely Republican candidate, the former president, 91-time criminal indictee and adjudicated rapist Donald Trump.

Trump, West said, was a “bona fide gangster, neo-fascist Pied Piper leading the country for a second civil war”.

West does not perform as strongly in polling as another independent seen as a potential spoiler in favour of Trump, the attorney and campaigner Robert F Kennedy Jr.

“But if you’re looking at somebody who has a record that encompasses a whole host of things, politically, intellectually, over time and space, alongside my personal life then I might in fact, be somebody you consider very seriously.”

The original article contains 589 words, the summary contains 169 words. Saved 71%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
