Hey all! Just wanted to shout out the app we are working on for Lemmy on iOS. We love Apollo and took lots of inspiration from it, but also have a lot of our own twists on the experience (Federation has it's own twists on top of a single website!).

We are actively pushing updates a few times a week right now and building up a solid foundation if "1.0" features to submit to the app store in the coming weeks/months.

Personally it's be a great excuse to learn Swift, SwiftUI and iOS development in general. What a blast!

Wefwef is the closest thing to Apollo I’ve experienced so far https://wefwef.app/settings/install

Yup, this is Apollo carbon copy alright. And I LOVE IT. I was honestly worries since my experience with webapps was less than stellar for a while, they're trash at best. But this is surprisingly fluid and feels close to a native app. I've both Mlem app and this, and so far this has HEAPS more features backed in and the only advantage Mlem has over it is that it is an app.

I’m trying a few apps, as well as MIam, but the one thing I miss from all of them is the Apollo condensed mode, a la old Reddit, but smarter. I think the first that scratches that itch will keep me as a customer.

Top Tip for anyone reading: Definitely "install" it to your home screen; it makes the gestures work so much better.

Second this! Shocking how similar it feels despite being a web app.

Holy shit, this is the one. I hope a native one comes out one day, but I’m shocked at how good this web app is.

it might be the closest from an ui/ux point of view but it still has a lot of issues with posts, messages, commentaries not loading.

But it is one to keep an eye on, I'll give it that.

Got a link for the TestFlight?

[–] KillaBeez 4 points 2 years ago

It’s a web app. Just follow the instructions to put it on your home screen and launch it from there.

Posting from memmy right now and it’s pretty damn good. Even got some good themes.

I have no idea what to do to get that app

First you need to download the TestFlight app from the App Store if you don’t already have it. Then, on the GitHub page, click the link that says “click here and join the group”. After that you will be able to install the app from TestFlight. Later, they will have a stable release in the App Store, and you should be able to switch over to that then, if you like.

It’s actually a very solid app. Haven’t had any issues with it. Obviously it’s missing some things, but the stuff already there is working.

I am wondering if you are going to streamline the signup process like they do on the official Mastodon app?

[–] morph3ous 4 points 2 years ago

I am using the app and it has been a great experience. Thanks @darknavi and team!

[–] mattclassic 3 points 2 years ago

I love you guys this app makes the experience so much better

[–] BaselT95 3 points 2 years ago

I’m liking it so far. Looking forward to adding more customization and appearance settings

slemmy has a lot of issues but it is looking good.

Still using memmy which has the best functionality and less issues so far, but it definitely can improve on its ui design and borrow a thing or two from lemmy

[–] Jackolantern 3 points 2 years ago

I think one of the things missing is search functionality.

[–] Meowmoth 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I can’t log in, it keeps saying: Mlem couldn't fetch you account's information. File a bug report.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Which server are you logging in to?

[–] hexual 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm getting the exact same error.

[–] DoakSteezy 2 points 2 years ago

Are you logging in with your username and not your email?

[–] redsol2 2 points 2 years ago

Commenting from the app! This is fantastic!

[–] Clareifi 2 points 2 years ago

This is… Noice! 👏🏽 Well done!

Lemmy.world, I also try with kbin and fedia .io with the same problem

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Any idea when the official launch will be? I know Testflight is pretty easy to set up, but I'll probably wait till I can get v 1.0.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m having trouble connecting with my Kbin account. Is this compatible with kbin?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Me too, I haven't been able to login to Kbin with any of these apps so far.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

None of the “Lemmy” apps will work with kbin, at least for now. Kbin does not have apis available for devs yet.

The only kbin app I’m aware of is Artemis, which is in closed beta, is doing some form of scraping instead of using apis.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

That interesting, thanks for sharing. I signed up for the Artemis testing, let's see how it goes.

[–] fernfrost 1 points 2 years ago

Awesome work guys. Reading / posting this from the beta. Coming from Apollo mlem feels familiar enough to get started. It has some rough edges design wise but I’m sure those will get ironed out over time.

[–] thisisdee 1 points 2 years ago

This looks quite good! I’ve tried a few others so far and this looked ahead of the others

[–] annabanana 1 points 2 years ago

I’m liking the app so far!
