we need an option for "i agree this is horrible idea"

the upvote is not right. neither is downvote.

we need sidevote

What in the AI fuck is that tiger in the center?

[–] [email protected] 57 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It's an old picture, before AI image generation. It's a tiger teddy with some stuffing removed.

[–] zeppo 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Ha, I see that now. I hope AI models aren't trained on this photo as if it's a normal tiger...

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Meanwhile I’m hoping AI models are trained on that photo

I'm excited for the pipeline of AI art to ai 3D models to AI generic recreation of extinct animals, and distant humans having pet tigers who looked like this.

Imagine blade runner but the replicant animals look like something between medieval art and poor AI image generation, because those are the only surviving reference images.

Turning into roulade.

Also! This is what the tiger on the bottom hunts for:

I really dislike the caltrop d4s. Numbering styles aside, they just roll so poorly compared to all other polyhedral dice. I really wish that either "crystal" style or "wormhole" style d4s become more commonplace.

Fuck d10s then, amirite?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] crawley 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant by "wormhole" style! Those, or the crystal style, are significantly better d4s IMO

[–] spittingimage 6 points 8 months ago

This is why I use 8- or 12-sided D4s.

I had never heard of one either, so I looked it up and found nothing by the name. The closest thing I could find to the description is these, and I've got to say, I like how they look. I'm curious if this is actually the type they were talking about though.

I guess they're usually called "rounded d4s" but I think they look like two of those classic spacetime wormhole depictions put together.

Edit:
These dice (top left):

Looks to me like two of these wormholes, one rotated 90 deg, and smooshed together:

You could make the bottom one work quite easily by just choosing the number that's NOT visible on an upward face.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago (1 children)

This "quite easily" is >3 times as much work as reading one number on top, because 1-2 faces will be pointed away from you.

What matters is effort per roll compared to the top image, not effort per roll compared to making a sushi roll.

do you not play in a hall of mirrors?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

WHAT IF I SAY I'M NOT LIKE THE OTHERS?

[–] eleefece 10 points 8 months ago

WHAT IF I SAY I'M NOT JUST ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR PLAYS?

[–] PunnyName 4 points 8 months ago (3 children)

Yeah, WTF is with the die in the right middle, and right bottom? Garbage plastic for landfills.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

right middlel: you determine the value rolled based on the number on the bottom.

right bottom: you determine the value rolled by deciding which number you like best.

[–] Decoy321 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

If the middle one's numbers all match for their adjacent face, it's still usable. You can designate the bottom number to be the selected number, since there's only one side facing down (just as there's only one point facing up).

The bottom one sucks because you'd need to arbitrarily deciding which upward side to choose from.

Bottom pic is the same as the middle ones, you use the bottom surface. It’s just meant to be viewed from the bottom through a transparent surface. Similar to a magic 8 ball

[–] GildorInglorion 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Simple, just look for the number not visible and that's the number on the bottom

[–] Carnelian 3 points 8 months ago

Technically since the numbers have an orientation, in this case you could know the bottom face only by looking at a single visible surface!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You're expected to crawl under the transparent table to see what you rolled?

[–] Carnelian 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Well, you could, but most people just use their pocket mirror

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

You're expected to have a pocket mirror? WTF is a pocket mirror?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

I really like the middle one better. I find it easier to read the numbers when they’re printed on the edge rather than the border of the triangle and find it easier to read the bottom side rather than the top corner. I’m pretty sure that’s the only kind of d4 I’ve ever owned.
