If you think about it, there are already tools that can do pretty convincing face swaps with few clicks and just from one low res photo at whatever angle. Long are gone the times you had to train the models for hours and had to have few hundred photos to just get "okay" fake. Once deepfake video creation becomes this simple, it is game over for porn industry.

Since why would anyone go into porn industry, when they can just use a tool to create lewd content of themselves if they are so inclined to make a living that way? And then it goes the other way around, why would anyone buy it if they can just homebrew it for free.

All in all, it is a good thing. Less exploitation of actual human beings and more power to "consumers". But then there have to be rigid laws against actuall AI porn dissemination, it should be illegal for anything else than private use unless actual consent to be used as source can be proven.

Sounds like you don't understand the sex work industry.

  • People already get porn for free. Nothing new here.
  • Some things you can't synthesize. Like experiences.
  • For a lot of people it's not just about the sex but the personalities of the models.
  • Some make the content because they like to make the content.

Since why would anyone go into porn

They like having sex and they like doing it on camera.

I for one welcome our Ferrangi holodeck overlords.

It leaves a sour taste in my mouth, for traditional handcrafted human generated pornography to come to a climax. I can only hope with suitable support, the industry can swallow the bitter blue pill, and maintain its stamina for just a bit longer.

Artificial content generation is a threat that's going to come over and over again, it's going to be in and out of the zeitgeist.

I am confident, as the porn industry lays exhausted and spongy on the ground, that there will always be an appetite, a fetish, for genuine human generated pornography. Hand polished porn if you will. Lovingly crafted to fit even the tightest niche.

What does worry me, is the AI parasocial relationship tsunami that's hitting the internet. There's going to be a lot of people growing up with these very awkward AI relationships, that are not going to be able to handle real people, having a distorted view of how humans work because they spent all of their time dealing with approximations of humanity online.

Love the puns. Keep it up ❤️

I think even the "handcrafted" experience will become redundant in couple of years. Give it text prompt, give it source image, and it will generate everything up to a tiny detail to a spec in text prompt.

I see it taking up the bulk of porn production. But there's always those crazy humans who search for that genuine experience. Hipster porn if you will.

Hah, I liked it before it was hot. My main squeeze is vintage vinyl, none of this modern silicone stuff, that’s not authentic.

"Hipster porn", lol get that term patented asap, it may be really catchy phrase in next few years. What times we live in, rofl

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

Your contempt and over usage of terms like "rofl" makes me think you have a problem with people who don’t share your vision of sexuality. You should work on it.

There will always be a difference between generated content and "the real deal". Even if both kinds of content feed into a fantasy, the human made kind has the allure of potentially (however slim the chance is) being with the actors in real life. That will never happen with generated characters.

In the back of the mind there will always be the knowledge that generated content is synthetic and imagining what it would feel like being with an actor is futile, as they don't exist. Which will cement human made content for the group who cares about such things.

That is the Achilles heel of AI. Pinocchio will never be a real boy.

I agree with this. What makes porn interesting is watching actual people get their freak on. I already gave up on commercially produced content simply because it is boring to watch surgically optimized fuckbots playact poorly. The only porn that’s interesting to me nowadays is amateur content made by people who enjoy making the content, not because someone pays them for it.

AI can’t fill a niche that is essentially "real and normal people who enjoy getting it on on camera for fun not money". Unless they improve to such a degree that the viewer literally cannot identify an ai fake any more, and then we have much bigger problems.

I think it has to be somewhere in between. This 'real deal' theory doesn't explain the popularity of hentai, but at the same time, OnlyFans shows that some people reaaallly care about the personal element. I would bet niche kinks (especially those 'illegal to make but legal to watch'?) will lean heavily on AI for content, but the rest will probably change based on our culture's attitude toward AI in general.

Never thought I'd be reading an honest academic discussion about AI's role in the porn industry. Good job, Lemmy. 👍

It's all so incredibly bad, though. Like a cross between shitty anime and shovelware book covers made from shopped-together stock photos. Shiny and cartoony and pointless.

Beyond which, it's about as engaging as talking to a spambot.

There's a reason things like celebrity and onlyfans-stars porn are popular: named boobs > random boobs. And generated boobs are so far below the threshold they don't even count; they may as well be on a blow-up doll.

When people look at porn, they aren't looking at body parts or sexual acts. They're looking at someone, who is displaying body parts or sexual acts.

That's why camgirls remain so popular despite the shitty quality, and the availability of 4k 60hz professionally-lit stuff filmed by professionals. It's the fact of having a person on the other end, with all the psychosocial connotations attached, that gives it value to a very large extent.

Even pre-recorded, it's still a performance, there's still the someone-did-this aspect of it.

You're going to have to wait for AI sentience to recapture that.

Until then, it'll remain niche, like furry stuff.

There’s zero chance that people will stop taking photos and videos of themselves fucking.

How long until the robot stripclubs?

What a time to be alive.

Thanks for linking that, it was a fun read! The future is now, and of course they had to make it creepy.

It will make Onlyfans have a whole new meaning.

The first use of ai in porn will be to further exploit their customers. Gentlemen, when you’re texting your favorite model, it’s no longer some guy in a third world sweatshop, but an AI you’re having your “genuine” conversation with …. This probably already started.

Second use will be the stories/articles, and also may have started already. Will it replace all the authors and their kinky imaginations? Most stories are pretty formulaic anyway so that could be a low bar, but losing the true authors would be a shame.

Then, yes, there’s the video. I imagine it’s like a video game: you ask Amber to do whatever for you and the computer generates that …. Probably with a selection of celebrity look-alikes. It could even save the internet by generating entirely in your laptop so the only traffic is the data collection upload and malware download. Don’t forget to wear your personal protection, and you may want to hesitate before you turn on your cam to “get in the video “

Maybe for real life porn, but so far the AI hentai is still lacking (good) and there's the occasional deformity
