From Grunge to Gangsta Rap and everything in between! Post a song and let's talk about it!

Rules

  1. All aspects of the LW TOS apply.
  2. Be constructive and don't gatekeep. Music is highly subjective, and people have different tastes.
  3. If the source is YouTube, use the actual YouTube URL rather than a specific Invidious/Piped link. This prevents dead links as those go on/offline or break due to Google changes while also letting people's browser plugins, Lemmy clients, etc automatically re-write YT links to their preferred instances. Feel free to put alternate links in the post body, though.
  4. Submissions must be from the 90s (1990 - 1999) based on either recorded or release date. e.g. if it was recorded in 1999 but released in 2000, we're not going to split hairs over that; post away. Covers made in the 90s of older music is absolutely allowed and encouraged.

Posting Guidelines / Suggestions

  1. The preferred title format is Artist - Song Name [YEAR]
  2. If a song has a particular meaning or evokes a pleasant memory for you, feel free to share your story with it.

If you have other suggestions that would help grow the community and/or foster discussion, please feel free to share.

I had no idea they were Swedish until I just looked them up. They’ve had about a bazillion band members too!

Todd in the shadows had a video about this. They aren't a band, more of a trademark. A creation of a production studio. That's why there ware so many member. The name was for sale at some point.

Oh interesting, I’ll check that out. In a bunch of their photos they reminded me more of a Renaissance Faire performance group (obviously different subject matter), so that totally makes sense.

Worst song of that decade maybe.

A contender for sure. But in my opinion, "I'm Blue" was far worse.

On the other hand, “I’m Blue” by Edna, by Kitboga, is the zenith of human culture.

You have obviously never heard a Scooter song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Twnmhe948A

What makes this even worse is that he ripped off the much less well known (and much better) Ultrasonic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4x2-xkliMg

Ya know what, I agree with you

Where I’m from, this song is played anytime there is a large enough gathering… From middle-school dances to prom, even weddings and funerals, they form a line dance and everything.

I hate it so much. Thanks for sharing lol

I get it. It always cropped up at school dances when I was a teenager. I hated it then. It's just a funny little song that gets stuck in my head from time to time now. I guess distance made me love it again.

When you say funerals, it makes me imagine an organ arrangement of this song. I don't know how I feel about that.

[–] lars 2 points 1 year ago

Not to worry: we’ll make sure you’re good and dead before we get that organ pumping

[–] spicytuna62 1 points 1 year ago

Lmao I'd appreciate that. My survivors? They'll deal with it

The song you linked... Made my son cry.

I've decided to give him up for adoption as he has very poor taste in music.

Maybe he's truly understood the tragedy of being a plantation slave and losing their lover to a plantation owner with alcoholic-induced glaucoma, who moves them to another plantation to separate you both (original context of the song from the 1800s, not the modern version, of course)

Mother tells me it’s never too late to abort

I hate it but its catchy af I'll give you that!

I always have it in my ear when I'm working out. Luckily I'm massively over 40 and have many excuses not to work out these days.

Never liked this song very much because it was overplayed before I was even born. It is kinda catchy though I'll give it that.

Also now that there's some god awful bassboosted sped up version going around I feel kind of relieved when I hear the "normal" version play

The shrill piercing sound of the fiddle part coming in is the most frightening sound known to man

I lost my virginity to this song.
