Because damn, that's bloody annoying to try to hit a post and have it zoom off the page as other ones come in the top.

I have no clue why this is a thing.

I've read that the auto scrolling is a bug, and will be fixed. But in the mean time, a work around is, switch to all, the url will show at the end as "page=1", change the 1 to 0 and press enter, it should stop scrolling.

Any idea how to get new comments in a post I'm reading to not pop in and reset my position?

It's a bug and it has been fixed in 0.18. @ruud is waiting for 0.18.1 to upgrade lemmy.world because 0.18 is missing captchas.
