The Spanish football federation has threatened to sue the 79 women’s football players who signed a letter in which they refused to play for their country as long as the federation president, Luis Rubiales, remains in his post.

In a statement, the federation said that it would take the “necessary legal action” and told the players that “playing for the national team is an obligation on any member of the federation called upon to do so”.

Decency is an obligation as well, but here we are threatening female players who show solidarity against sexual harassment.

Update: apparently he is done after Fifa stepping in.

What a shitshow and disgrace though.

Just to really fuck with them. They could turn up for the game and just lose every game. Like, turn up and just do nothing as a form of protest.

Malicious compliance, I like it.

Get them to show up with lawn chairs and just sit in the middle of the field.

[–] FuglyDuck 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lawn chairs are prohibited equipment.

Lazy boys, they say nothing about lazy boys.

Perhaps they could field a team of Golden Retrievers. It's my understanding that no sport has a rule against dogs playing.

Just stroll towards the ball and never attempt a tackle or anything.

Or play with real vigor but help the other team instead.

You know it is bad when FIFA has to be the one to do the right thing.

That dude is so gross. Way to ruin the fucking moment too, now instead of the win, they just think of his face and unnatural history of forcing himself on other people. Like dude, have some shame. And maybe go live in a hut for a decade and think that mayyyyybe inserting yourself into someone's victory by suprise kissing them and then getting defensive about it was the wrong idea. Especially since this isn't even the first incident.

How to say "We are dumb and tone-deaf" without actually writing "We are dumb and tone-deaf"...

Your link doesn't go anywhere for me. Is it on my end or is the link bad?

[–] Uncaged_Jay 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It took me to another post that says FIFA suspended him

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Interesting it works now. Before I just got a bad gateway error or something

[–] HonoraryMancunian 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

TIL you're obligated to play if you get a call up

[–] Mr_Pap_Shmear 9 points 1 year ago

just pick up an injury the day before. i'm sure their clubs wouldn't mind facilitating this

[–] baldingpudenda 3 points 1 year ago

Just put the ball in play, "I'm just here so I won't get fined ". Tell the ref you going to "push" them for a red card. What's the least number of players a team can field? 8?
