What holds up to re-watches?

I just, can't imagine running out of tv shows????? I have probably 8 or so on my to-be-watched list, and the list only gets longer. I've watched 1 season each of 2 shows (Foundation S1 & Golden Compass S2) this YEAR. Oh and maybe Rings of Power was this year, too.

It happens pretty quickly for me. I usually watch a whole season in one sitting though. I absolutely will not watch a TV show unless it has multiple seasons for this reason.

I typically resort to reading when I run out of good shows to watch.

An an animation geek: Steven Universe, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Gravity Falls, Over The Garden Wall, Spectacular Spider-Man, Apple & Onion, Bob's Burgers, and Ugly Americans are all shows I seem to go back to every year or two.

Otherwise, I feel like Arrested Development, Better Off Ted, Mr. Robot, Party Down, Psych, Santa Clarita Diet, Schitt's Creek, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, We Are Lady Parts, and the first season of Twin Peaks are all great re-watches.

My list would get too long if I listed all the movies I think are worth rewatching, but Coraline is a fun one to come back to because they packed more detail into that movie than one person could pick up in over a dozen viewings. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is another awesome one to rewatch because it's just pure fun.

re-watching it now. Such a remarkably consistent show.

For me, SpongeBob up until the first movie, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Adventure Time, old Top Gear, King of the Hill, and the king of them all is Futurama.

Frasier
Star Trek The Next Generation
MASH
Star Wars The Clone Wars
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Mission Impossible (original series)
Thunderbirds

Eureka is the first that comes to mind. No matter how many times I watch it, it’s still awesome. Jurassic park (like the original couple/few) is the same.

Ive watched sg-1 the most, for sure. Yet, I keep revisiting old favorites and rewatching in a cycle. Sopranos, the wire, star trek tng, ds9, mr robot, the shield, sons of anarchy, peaky blinders are some ive rewatched in the past 2 years. It has become more like a revolving door in the past few years rather than one certain favorite.

Im planning on binging the bear s1 and s2 when ive finished with s2 as I feel I missed some details that could be good during a rewatch.

@LeafyBirch SG-1 and Atlantis here, too. As Time Goes By. West Wing. Daria. Eerie, Indiana.

We're currently re-watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and I think it'll join the rotation.

@FrostBolt

God I tried to rewatch eureka, I so dearly loved that show. I got the kids in front of the TV and I said this is a fantastic sci-fi series with all kinds of great high concept stuff you're going to love it.

They did not, in fact, love it.

So internally I'm all screw you guys You don't know what you're missing I'm going to watch it.

I don't remember the pilot being this long and slow, I'm just forgetting I'm sure I'll pick up an episode two, I got a few minutes into episode 3 and just couldn't.

The acting is shakier than I remember the effects don't hold up. I have to stop before I ruined my memory of loving it. I miss the show so much Henry was a badass.

The Office, Parks and Rec & Brooklyn 99 in no particular order

Frasier - I sleep to this and its 11 season have held up very well over the years

Futurama - I often sleep to this, too

King of the Hill - My first venture into a life of piracy occurred when Netflix first stopped streaming this. RIP Johnny Hardwick

The Office - It’s The Office. If you get it, you get it.

Home Movies - H. John Benjamin’s best character will always be McGirk

InuYasha (dubbed) - Your first anime obsession will always have a place in your replays

Family Matters (Urkel) - The 2nd - Fifth seasons are delightfully funny, and they always make me feel like a kid again

Bob’s Burgers - If I don’t know what to watch, I’ll just turn on the Belchers and things just sort of work out for themselves

Bewitched - I used to watch this as a kid with my mother who used to watch this as a kid with her mother. Not all the episodes hold up perfectly, but it’s still extremely entertaining

Brooklyn 9-9 - Never gets old for me. It’s playing in front of me right now!

For tv shows, I usually go for Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans, Firefly, Monk, and Psych. I watch Avatar, in particular, at least once every 18 months or so.

For movies, my top rewatches are usually Jurassic Park, Sahara, Mulan, Hercules, and Black Panther. They're my "I just need to turn my brain off for a bit" helpers.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I always go back to peep show.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

King of the Hill. I worked for a bit "remotely" from my wife and I only had that series and few movies to watch (mostly because the internet was straight garbage where I was).

Ended up alright! There's enough KOTH episodes that I could have it on as background noise without it getting old.

Star Trek: The Next Generation. Watching that is the TV version of getting comfy under a warm blanket.

Married With Children

Sanford And Son

I dunno, just a couple random shows that came to mind.

[–] first_must_burn 3 points 1 year ago

Firefly.

My days of not taking you seriously are definitely coming to a middle.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Depends on my mood but probably - Bojack, Mr. Robot, Parks & Rec, Community, Trailer Park Boys or Brooklyn 99.

The Office, Seinfeld

Star Trek Next Gen, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager are my go to bidges. Sometimes I just have them on as background because I've seen them so many times.

The Pokemon anime is a reliable watch for me when I'm feeling nostalgic. Also great for practicing my Japanese listening skills on Netflix Japan.

Avatar the Last Airbender and Korra. Love the worlds these shows create, and I always seem to catch new details through each rewatch.

Steven Universe- On my second watch through, and am actually starting to prefer the slice of life episodes more than the first time around. God tier music.

We Bare Bears- Such a cute wholesome show. Definitely a great comfort show.

Monk, House, and Psych- There was a time where I just watched a lot of TBS, and these were my favorite shows from there. Sean and Guss from Psych is probably one of my favorite bromances from television.

Might add more if I think of anything else.

Malcolm in the Middle is one of those shows that is always running with my setup (Plex Server and DizqueTV).

Seinfeld and the 2001-2003 episodes of the german „Harald Schmidt Show“. I’m somewhat of an humor reactionary.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Hannibal, the TV show. It was truly a masterpiece.

Although recently I’m more likely to pull out a video game and play than watch TV out movies, and my old standby is the Mass Effect trilogy.

[–] niktemadur 1 points 1 year ago

Mad Men

Eighties episodes of Late Night With David Letterman, particularly the earlier ones, from '82 to '86, before things started getting just a little too polished.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I have so many shows I need to catch up on that I could never run out of "new-to-me" media. But there's some I could suggest:

  • Perry Mason
  • Mission: Impossible!
  • Star Trek (including all sequel series)
