Really depends on the context. I personally prefer urine to be colourless.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

That's because dark yellow urine is a sign of poor health, but I'm sure you knew that.

I personally like to cultivate yellow urine by dehydrating myself in the winter, what for giving my snow-writing art more "pop".

I personally do not. I have a silver watch. A silver and black ring. And don’t think I own anything gold. But many people do like the look.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I always preferred silver as wellβ€”stainless steel appliances, white gold wedding band etc. But I just visited my brother who has done his kitchen in dark green and brass, and I think I finally see the appeal.

That’s the whole reason gold even has value, for 99% of human history it was worthless but people thought it was pretty so it became expensive.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's not just pretty, it's also useful. Going back a couple centuries, there weren't many materials that were rust resistant and as malleable as gold. That combined with the aesthetic possibilities, and the fact that's rare and difficult to obtain, is what made it valuable.

Yea, gold is much easier to do detailed things with then almost every other metal. And it doesn't react with sulphor like copper and silver do.

You missed the coolest aspect, it doesn’t oxidize! To me that’s ridiculously cool. Also why it’s used for extremely important circuitry and such. Silver/platinum colored stuff looks better though

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Gold things (jewelry) usually go well with warm colored clothes, think red, pink, orange, etc.

Silver jewelry is better suited for when you’re wearing cool colored clothes.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Blue and gold is also a classic for a reason.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yup. Also the more blonde / light brown hair color the better gold looks on you than silver.

Also, I really like how dark skin and black hair look with gold.

So for me, it's really the medium to dark brown hair and maybe really fair skin goes well with silver.

That's just my personal preference of course.

But on like cars and stuff? Gold is hideous.

[–] nehl 11 points 1 year ago

Really depends on the colour scheme. But dark blue and gold, or black and gold can look dope in my opinion.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

I dunno about people in general but I really don't, it's garish

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Yes? I have a slightly more yellow undertone, so silver washes me out. Gold just looks better.

I also enjoy gold accents when used sparingly in interior decoration.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Nope. Silver looks much better in my opinion.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

No. Not at all. It looks tacky and people that flaunt it are usually fake-rich. I don't mind spending money on quality things, but Gold does nothing for me.

[–] ArchmageAzor 6 points 1 year ago

I like gold detailing or engraving. Solid gold not so much.

[–] nixpa 6 points 1 year ago

I know I don't. I think gold looks incredibly tacky on me, so the only metals I wear are silver, steel, or titanium. I know a few people that adore the color of gold, or like rose gold, but value doesn't mean anything to a person like me if they despise the way gold looks. There's just something incredibly timeless about the silvery color metals that gold just doesn't have I believe.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I prefer silver jewelry (on myself at least), but for furniture type things gold is alright.

[–] Nioxic 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I think its ghastly

Only reason i have a gold ring is because the wife insisted. I like the ring because my wife is awesome, and it reminds me of her.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I used to dislike it, but i've noticed that it's very complementary to my wife's skin tone. Therefore, I've come around on gold.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

As an accent material? Take my money any day of the week. As the base material? Nah, I think Silver does a better job there.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It's been valued for so long it would be hard to separate from aesthetics. Like, it's pretty much as old as metalworking in general.

Consider how you'd feel about a blue-coloured metal. I think that would be neat, but it doesn't have the "classy" feel that gold does, and that has to be cultural.

[–] xT1TANx 3 points 1 year ago

Depends on the game. I really like the gold revolver in rdr2 story mode. I didn't expect to but it's pretty awesome.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I disliked gold, and preferred silver, until I got older. I'm convinced it's social programming, in my case. I learned to like gold, because of decades of being told how valuable gold is.

Why do I like deep blue? Why does anyone like any color? There's probably some evolved reason for those preferences; for instance, many creatures are attracted to shiny things.

In any case, I'm also interested in any scientific answer you get, but I wanted to put out there that I have annecdotal evidence that there's a lot of learned (nurture) preference, combined with some evolved preference (shiny, nature).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I consider myself a people, and I prefer my body jewelry to be gold if I can afford it. A few pieces are gold-colored anodized titanium (which are fading), but very prominent pieces are solid gold. I like yellow gold, not rose gold. I actually think titanium/"silver" looks more tacky than gold.

But that's just for pieces of jewelry that go into my body. For bracelets and such, I prefer brass, leather, and shades of brown. I don't wear necklaces.

Gold cars are disgusting though.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

They don't tarnish.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I think copper or unpolished iron look a lot better.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, there are lots of of things that can look good if golden

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Probbly my favourite colour of cooked potato.

[–] Whatawiffer 2 points 1 year ago

I never did really, until a few weeks ago I found a gold bracelet type thing outside and wore it for a while. It's not 100% my style but now I'm considering getting something else like it. It's very thin which might help, maybe that makes it look nice but not too flashy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I think it's OK/good-looking on certain things. Maybe just because it's a shiny pretty metal. But somehow, I don't seem to own anything in shiny gold color.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, other people have tastes different from you. Really.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon 2 points 1 year ago

Sometimes if someone is kind of a funky clothes person stuff like gold lamΓ© pants actually can look cute.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I only like the color gold because of its implied value.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I like some gold looking things. I have a golden casio watch that goes well with a lot of my outfits. Also, my skin tone goes well with gold glasses.

That's about it though

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I like shiny golden blonde hair. Does that count?

[–] Smokeydope 1 points 1 year ago

Yes absolutely something about gold ignites the 'ooh, fancy!' Part of my brain. Gold and purple are great colors that do well together.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I don't wear much gold, but my glasses are gold-framed and I'm quite fond of them. They stand out in a way silver or titanium wouldn't.

Surely this isn’t a serious question?

Value is just a measurement of how much someone is willing to pay for something, and people in general are willing to pay more for things that they like. I really don't think it's possible to separate value from the equation here.
