What's so stupid about this is that if Trump really did believe in autarky, there are ways to advance that without wrecking the economy. In fact, a good case can be made that we could use simpler supply chains. Covid showed that. If Trump wanted to push some broad bipartisan bill through Congress that would greatly reduce net trade, he could probably do it.

But the way to do that properly isn't to do it all at once. You phase in tariffs over years. You announce the schedule well in advance, and you give people and companies plenty of time to adapt. Want to phase out NAFTA? Well, the people seemed to have voted for that. So maybe phase it out over 20 years.

But Trump is a moron, so he tries to do everything all at once by fiat.

Nah, they're expropriating government funds and have destroyed any capacity to track the money.

If it's not a full and permanent take over then it's a crash the market and buy everything up with stolen money scam.

One of the two.

But this may end up functionally indistinguishable from the collapse of America.

Destroying the economy and social security may also lead to more direct political action from the populace. If and when it does, I expect to see an attempt to apply martial law. The creation of all the chaos is part of the plan.

with no purpose beyond its own destruction.

Come, now. We all know the higher level purpose. We know who owns him.

They’ll strip it for parts and cash then implement something else they like better while blaming Biden or the Constitution. His followers will eat it up until they start feeling its effects this summer.

This is the same bunch that will let any Republican take a dump in their mouth if they thought a liberal had to smell it?

Nah, the hardcore redhatters will blame it on "bidenflation" or something equally brainless and keep right on supporting little d and fElon. It won't matter if they have to resort to "urban camping" because they got fucked so hard. As long as they think uppity women, liberals, Jews, POC, immigrants have it even worse, they'll gladly stay Republican and keep waving that stupid nazi gear little d sells them.

They'll eat it up beyond that. They will never, ever wake up.
