News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

On the flip side of this, my main account was banned there but my alt account that I've also had for a few years now wasn't. And I've even made a post or two with it there in the months since my main was banned, just to see.

And the funny thing is, the last time I was a banned for a few days (I managed to successfully appeal), they also banned my alt account that I had never even posted on before. Then unbanned it along with my main account after my appeal. So clearly their systems are aware that the two accounts are the same person.

it means thier filters are banning any account regardless of you evaded a ban, lol. so thier AI is very error prone. one of my main acc recieved a temp ban, i decided to use a old alt acct to comment on a different sub, it triggered a ban on all my accts. they definitely know you have linkeda ccts if you use multiple accs on the same IP or device. personally i think they are sanitizing the site.

Additionally i think they also ban if they caught you in a spam (comment deleted by a subreddits auto-spam detection, even if it dint warrant a reportable or ban offense). the reddit filters flags your acct as soon as it detects your comments get removed by a subreddits filter too. we know they check for posting behaviour, writing style and spammy comments.

I guess their bot detection must have figured out that you're a human.

Reddit held my account hostage too. I wasn’t allowed back in until providing an email. They claimed ‘suspicious activity’ or something like that and framed it all as a service to me. I gave them an unused address that I set up for a community group years ago. The reddit account in question was over a decade old.

This has happened to me on several apps when I signed up while using a (paid) VPN

reddit has been banning people with VPN for a while, apparently even people with PROXIES are having problems too(which is the next step after vpn got banned by reddit) proxies were originally used to evade ip IDING by reddit, much better than vpn, but even reddit is catching up those methods.

This happened to me twice, but it was twitter (long before Musk took over). They held my account hostage in exchange to my phone number - which I refused to give them.

Despite the ban, their system still sent me their annoying newsletter. It also took me 3 support tickets to get my account deleted and stop receiv8ng emails.

Reddit detects if your previous account was banned and then bans your new account as well.

this time around at least within february, any sort of ban they detect, even a temp one will trigger thier filters, to ban all your accts with no reason at all, the filters are so sensitive it happens to innocent accounts to. they usually ban the new account that commented on a banned sub before, but this time was different, they just went looking for old accounts too.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That's the problem - I've never had any banned accounts on Reddit before

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 hours ago

some innocent accts were getting caught in the ban wave this month. did you ever get a comment removed automatically?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This happened to me when I signed up again to report a fraudster in my local area's subreddit. I was instantly shaddowbanned, without any messages or warnings sent to me. I was unable to post or up/down vote. I contacted their 'support' over it and just got all my messages ignored, or maybe they weren't even received.

This is the exact problem I'm having, with a suspension and subreddit ban on top of that (the subreddit that I created was also banned)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

I mean, there was a reason. The question is if it was a good reason. And, you know, it's reddit, sooooo

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I find that hard to believe.

nope its actually happening, on another site, some were banning anywhere from a few minutes to few hours after creation, and they have banning "bots" for the last month aggressively,
