We learn something new every day. This is a community dedicated to informing each other and helping to spread knowledge.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

How else are you supposed to keep score? Half the time there's a few spares sitting in the golf cart.

[–] Noite_Etion 3 points 16 hours ago

Last mini golf place i went to wanted me to download an app to track my scores... My wife had a pen and paper, so we made our own

I love this.

Relevant XKCD:

This is one of those TIL's were im trying to figure out if its a joke or what. They provide them for you at many mini golf places.

[–] ElectroVagrant 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I phrased it to read as a joke at a glance, but it's genuine! I've never gotten into any form of golf.

[–] Dasus 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How is it surprising in any way?

"TIL that most grocery stores sell or even give you a packaging bag you can pack your shopping into."

[–] Dasus 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sooo.. never been to an Ikea either, I take it?

[–] ElectroVagrant 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do they give snack-sized bags to put shopping into?

[–] Dasus 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The bags you get are actually huge as. Yellow for the ones to use inside the store, blue for ones you can own.

But the reason I asked should be pretty clear, given the topic.

Oh! I mistook it as a continuation of the general store example, as I haven't been to a physical IKEA store (there aren't any all that nearby).

Today I'm learning many little things! (Some stuff going on so between here and watching Attenborough documentaries.)

Surely some golfers have very large pencils

[–] negativenull 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's not about the size of the pencil...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

... it's about the size of the balls.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Balls should be standard sized and cutely dimpled.

I think it's more about how the golfer swings their club.

[–] wjrii 3 points 1 day ago

Indeed, but the ones who do probably don't see much need to boast about it.

[–] shortrounddev 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You never been to a mini golf place either?

[–] ElectroVagrant 5 points 1 day ago

If I have it was so long ago I completely forgot, or may have been too young to remember.

[–] Golfnbrew 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Most of them don't have erasers, though. I have several in my bag

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago

You should give them their erasers back mate

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah I've never been able to afford to go to a course that gives you pencils with erasers. That's some 1% luxury.

[–] 11111one11111 2 points 17 hours ago

I know these are all playing off the original comments joke of needing erasures in his bag, but for the sake of the newbie golfers, the pencils don't have erasures to prevent score changing without initializing. If you play for money with friends or in amateur tournaments, when you have to make a score correction after it's written down, you should have your cart buddy initial it. Noone wants to pay someone on a scorecard with erased scores on it lol.

"I know you're interviewing John Boehner later. You should know that he has very tiny hands, so..."
"Let him hold a miniature golf scoring pencil to make them look normal, obviously."

I found the real trick to bring good at golf is to simply not keep a scorecard, so you can just lie and say you got a hole in one on all 18 holes. 😌

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Typically the club provides them for free

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Which clubs provide them? Like the putters or...?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

The woods, clearly

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Not really "may" I think you would be hard pressed to find a golf course that didn't provide you with a pencil and score card
