Welcome to /c/Gay - Your LGBTQ+ Haven

We're more than just a community; we're your haven for celebrating LGBTQ+ culture and connecting with like-minded individuals.

Community Rules:

~ 1. No bigotry. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person. This includes speculating about someones sexuality, no matter how "obvious" it may be.

~ 4. Keep it LGBTQ+ related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love posts but 3-4 in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

At this point, it is easier to make a whitelist than a blacklist.

If we're being technically correct, it'll be a "allowlist" and "deny list"

My only nitpick is that it's not a rise. It's a resurgence. In the United States we never dealt with our fascists before or after World War II. Early on FDR had them in the palm of his hand to strangle and snuff out. But instead decided to work with them. Absolving them and wiping the way most the record of their crimes.

Despite them hiding their behavior a little better. No Corporation is a friend of anyone that they don't see as directly beneficial to themselves. It has always and will always be that way. As such no one should ever think of any corporation as an ally or a friend.

We will remember where capitalists stood during the rise of fascism

I can't fathom where you folks find such optimism. Friends and family, neighbors and coworkers, many of the people you talk to every day, and even more of those that you don't, will continue to depend on and sustain these companies, now and beyond. There'll be no consequences for those calling the shots, regardless of whether the tides change or not.

This isn't new, and I don't see why it'd change now. They don't care about forgiveness, nor do they need to—how soon will convenience cover all past crimes against humanity. History shows us that companies can partake in genocide and, so long as they play the game, they'll just get a slap on the wrist, then get right back to business. And we'll pay them to do it.

We don't even stand united! Whenever you look like a paranoid lunatic to get someone to de-google, whenever you boycott scum, whenever you pay extra to buy from upstanding companies, remember: first, there are all those people who don't care, and second, there are all those people proud to do the opposite to make sure you get fucked because they hate you. The odds are clear, the system is rigged.

I feel like it doesn't matter whether we'll remember where they stood, we'll be forgotten soon enough.

Do the right thing, for no reason other than because it's right. Just don't expect that to mean anything, is what I've learned.

it's going to be easier to share a list of companies that are still okay (or as ok as companies can be)

Here's a list of the big ones that are ditching DEI: Amazon
Google
McDonalds
Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Oculus)
McDonalds
Target
Walmart

And some big companies that refuse to bend over for Trump:
Microsoft
Apple
Costco
Delta
JP Morgan Chase

Oh thank god the good people over at JP Morgan Chase aren't bending the knee, they should be forgiven for that whole London Whale thing, the Subprime Mortgages and predatory lending that helped lead to the 2008 financial crisis and all that stuff, which mostly disproportionately ruined the lives of POC (sometimes completely), it's all cool because they said "no we think this move will benefit our shareholders more than if we bent the knee, we'll make more money virtue signaling."

Never thought I'd see lemmy simping for one of the largest and most evil banking institutions in the world, the fuck? Other corporations like apple and microsoft sure, that happens all the time here, y'all love billion dollar corporations so long as they have "good" UI and can run the fortnites, but JP fucking Morgan?!

Starbucks ditched DEI last year before the fascists were even in power. But don't worry, they have a trans person in their new ad so we can forgive that and all their support of war crimes now.

I'm happy to see the representation, don't get me wrong, but Starbucks can go fuck themselves.

McDonald's twice.

I like the moral of the post image but their use of the word "capitalists" seems pretty sketchy. That's a flag for tankie astroturfing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Is it?

Its not only people supporting China that hate capitalists

[–] finitebanjo 0 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Thats why I called it a flag instead of a clear indication.

The way I see it, tearing down capitalism will never lead to communism, but those words just mean west and east to Tankies anyways.

When there are this many Tankies on Lemmy its a safer bet to assume "capitalism causes all the bad" are Tankies than not.

Genuinely curious to see what Pride even looks like in June. Last year I remember half the parade being hemmed in by cops. And that was under the liberal mayor.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I can't exactly remember which companies but I remember some announcing that they will only do pride in states that generally support it. I live in Oklahoma so I guess I'm not seeing any pride this year. Not like companies actually cared anyways

[–] UnderpantsWeevil 1 points 4 days ago

I live in Oklahoma so I guess I’m not seeing any pride this year.

I suspect we'll still see people marching. Only question is whether they're in rainbow colors or brown shirts.

[–] garbagebagel 1 points 4 days ago

I have a feeling in some places, it'll return to more of what it was at its roots and it'll be closer to an actual protest again.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The leadership at my company was asked if we are continuing our DEI program. The CEO is Indian, the CMO is a gay black man, and the COO is a woman. The answer was yes

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

CMO? Chief... Medical? Monetary? Museum? Officer....

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

Chief Marketing Officer

Aaaaaaaaaaand pinned to the top of the community.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 days ago

I don't think the rainbow logos are happening this june tbh.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The fact people were happy with these token gestures should temper your expectations as to what will happen when they do those again.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Were people happy? Most of the people in my circles weren't, but maybe my friends are just cool.

[–] gmtom 4 points 4 days ago

Except your average mainstream gay WILL completely forget about it and will go back to buying their limited edition rainbow edition of the vodka or whatever so they post it on their insta story.

[–] Soleos 7 points 5 days ago

Huh, well critics have been calling for pride to reflect its protest roots more than the corporate party it's become. It may well have to be a protest now.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Hugo Boss created the SS's uniform and sadly it's still in business.

[–] cornshark 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Be warned Nazi sympathizing corporations, you're going to go the way of Volkswagen and Hugo Boss

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

According to a list above, JP Morgan Chase is actually one of the "good" companies that think the political move of keeping DEI will make them more than getting rid of it would, so, I guess we're supposed to like them now or something, predatory lending is back on the menu boys, this time with rainbows.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

Yes, good point, famous or deeply entrenched in society.

[–] finitebanjo 1 points 5 days ago

I know this is off topic, but whats your opinion on NATO?
