Rules

AI Art: While we appreciate AI generated art, there are more appropriate communities to post that type of art to. Please keep posts to non-AI generated art only. This rule includes AI art that was then manually manipulated (e.g. drawing on top of something generated by AI).

Nudity: Nudity is and has always been a part of art, but it may be something that some users don't wish to see or cannot view in certain circumstances (e.g. at work). If your work contains nudity, please mark it as NSFW. Work that contains nudity that is not marked as NSFW will be taken down. As long as the NSFW tag is used, we welcome nude subject matter.

Spam: Please do not spam this community. Self promotion is fine if you just want people to be aware of your work, but blatant attempts at spam will result in the past being removed and possibly a ban. If you aren't sure if what you are posting is spam, please contact the moderator first.

Conduct: Be nice, and don't be a jerk. Constructive criticism is OK, but don't be mean. Encouragement is always welcomed.

No, not as good as I want to be. But I think this one is pretty good. Looking back I think the first one looks the closest so maybe I'm trying too hard?

Though coming from never painting a real person before I'm pretty happy overall.

Droporain (no idea how to tag people) asked for a young Sammy. This is him! Sort of, he's probably in his 40s here.

I’ve been watching you post these since #1. I can say that I enjoy all of them, but it sure looks like you are getting more comfortable with what you’re doing. This #5 feels more like you have proportions and shading much more focused, and dialed in.

Painting portraits of people is hard work, especially famous people. Humans in general focus on pattern recognition and the things we see a lot of are peoples faces, so humans tend to be β€œgood” at finding flaws when something doesn’t look quite right. Don’t let this discourage you. This is looking great. Keep it up.

Thank you, and you're totally right! I've avoided it for 40+ years. Guess it's time to get good at it.

This is a huge improvement from the first one! Don't knock yourself, you're doing great!

Thank you!!

This really reads well and I think it is great the way it is. The hyper realistic stuff is way too much for me even if I can appreciate their skill.

Thank you! I'm not a big fan of the super realistic either. The proportions aren't quite right yet and the expression reads different to me. I'll keep working on it!

I think this is your best one yet!

Can I paint Samuel L. Jackson?

If he consents to it, I'm not going to judge but he probably has a bit of a busy schedule. Maybe go with a Dragonball or something to make good use of the baldness.

How did you fit that forehead on the canvas?

Jokes aside that's a damn good work!

Took several weeks of excavation to clear enough room, but it was worth it! πŸ˜‚

He's easily recognizable in your painting. Well done!

I like this one. He feels very himself in the painting! I like watching these paintings, thank you.

perhaps the reason #1 stands out is because it has a unique eye shape and they feel like the focus of the piece. this one is very close though, love it!
