People think the Democrats are losing relevance because they're "Too woke", and "No one cares about transpeople when there are bills to pay"

It's really because they do shit like try to compromise with someone who wants to kill you by agreeing to let them cut off an arm.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 hours ago

"I don't want any harm to me?"

Republicans: I want blood. You have it. Give your body to me to harm.

Democrats: Look he said he wants blood, have you considered they are frustrated with this economy? Maybe a figner as an olive branch will solve this. ...not mine.

[–] taanegl 10 points 2 hours ago

No. Send in Schumer again. Surely it'll work this time.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

These aren't Democrats we're talking about, they're just more affluent folks trying to keep their pockets lined. Moral bankruptcy is a required trait to be a politician these days apparently

[–] voxthefox 2 points 2 hours ago

When they're allowed to fly the democrat flag, then they are democrats and it's right for us to judge the group based off their actions.

At this point US needs leaders who can mobilize people and spearhead protest marches in the street. AOC is perfectly positioned to call for such protest march. If she does that and become figurehead of the Dem Allies against MuskTrump axis,, she might get elevated to same status as MLK and may be even Lincoln. And on that note, why Kamala is quiet ?

[–] MothmanDelorian 7 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Kamala lost and she lost badly. She’s not going to be the figurehead

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 hours ago

it wasn’t that badly by the numbers, it was badly by the electoral college….
incidentally trump won every and only states that passed new voter suppression laws….

this election was stolen and that’s only one piece of it….

i still hate kamala, but she won.

And on that note, why Kamala is quiet ?

Kamala Harris is the new Hillary Clinton. The GOP boogeyman and now political poison after she embarrassingly lost to Donald Trump.

Kamala Harris was deeply unpopular both before and during the Biden administration, and (sorry to say it, but it's true) she was largely picked because there was pressure for Biden to pick a minority female to "balance out" the fact that he was a white man. You know how some people, particularly (but not entirely) on the right, believe that affirmative action means that minorities end up getting positions that they otherwise probably wouldn't have gotten because someone needs to fill a "diversity quota" or whatever? That's how a lot of people felt about Harris -- picked not because of her qualifications, but because she was a black woman.

She's basically been the poster child for this as far as the GOP is concerned ever since. And not in a good way. Right now, with anti-DEI sentiment gaining traction in this country at a record pace and DEI initiatives becoming political battery acid, the last thing you want as the face of the movement is someone believed to be the poster child for DEI initiatives run amok.

I do not think AOC has remote same appeal or adeptness of rhetoric to ever do something like this. Would recommend listening to MLKs speeches if haven't already. Someone like that will come eventually, but they can't be forced into that position. Also, the situation has to call for it. If it were possible to wake up and choose to be MLK we'd have a million.

10+ brand new accounts commenting in this thread, with 2 of them less than a day old. Did Lemmy get an influx of new accounts or are these bots?

Some Reddit users. Reddit was A/B testing a zuckservative sub Reddit ban, so spooked people probably. I found my way here thru a Reddit thread.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

Reddit had a "bug" that banned all NSFW and lgbtq+ subs stating that they were inactive (they were not) and ONLY those subs. So a bunch of people moved here (myself included now that most subs I follow moved here)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 hours ago

Probably both!

The democrats are the assistance. And people seem to not be able to figure this out.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Where are all the 2a folks who are going to stop the 'tyRAnNicAl gOvERnMenT'

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

They're helping a tyrannical government seize power. Time to exercise your rights.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

Not american, watching from the outside

[–] [email protected] 12 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

It's our tyrannical government, so it's okay.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 hours ago

"Tyranny is only when the evil Commie Leftists tell you that its wrong to call peoppe by slurs."

i have a question - where is Kamala Harris in all this ? She lost the prez race and decided to just give up on her dreams of creating a better USA? This is the perfect moment for her to step up, invite people for resistance, lead that resistance and be the leader she claimed to be.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 hours ago

She was a failed candidate in 2020, picked based largely on identity for VP by a presidential nominee that was really only liked as a remnant from a administration for which he was also picked largely based on identity. Towed the party line during increasing displeasure with the party heads, then failed spectacularly in an election.

Even if I believed she truly had dreams of creating a better USA, it's best for her to not be prominent member.

[–] boaratio 26 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

It should not be on her shoulders to explain this moment. The fact that she is able to articulate our current crisis is amazing.

[–] MothmanDelorian 3 points 3 hours ago

She’s one of the most prominent progressives in America there are few more appropriate choices.

[–] Ensign_Crab 14 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It should not be on her shoulders to explain this moment.

I can think of no shoulders more capable.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

It should not be on her shoulders only.

[–] Ensign_Crab 4 points 4 hours ago

It should not, no. But here we are.

[–] SoftestSapphic 3 points 4 hours ago

Unfortunately everyone else seems to be complicit.

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives
