In four years they’ll use this as evidence that he didn’t have a second term and can run again.

I believe that.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

But until then, they'll deny it ever happened.

It's just tradition and not required. John Quincy Adams used a law book to swear in on, and Teddy Roosevelt didn't use anything.

Trump is no Teddy Roosevelt in any stretch of the imagination though.

It does not actually matter, but it is worth mentioning that conservatives will and have often lost their shit over non Republicans who are sworn into Congress or the Senate without their hand on a Bible, or will just entirely make up stories that claim they did not, and then state that this makes them not actually have any legal authority.

There are fucktons of examples of this in the last 2 decades, it is basically a room temperature IQ criticism or fabrication that is routinely thrown by Republicans and conservatives at Democrats.

If Trump actually didn't swear in whilst touching a Bible, it does not actually matter, but it does illustrate the general idiocy and hypocrisy of Republican rhetoric.

Not concern with the Book I know that. What's makes it weird is he pretending to swear into a book and doesn't he attempt to place his hand on said book. Swear in anyway you want. But don't act all christian by bringing in the bible and not even swear in on it. Fucking hands at his side. Might as well said fuck it and left his other hand down too.

It's not a big deal to me, but what I'm interested in seeing is how believers who support him will either ignore it or make some excuses. It SHOULD be a big deal for them, but when you're in a cult...

If they didn't have double standards they wouldn't have any at all

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

All of the above is true.

I think it's more likely that he didn't put his hand on the book because he has no idea what's going on.

I hope this actually sets a modern precedent where the next President doesn't have to pretend to be Christian.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

But he is pretending to be Christian.

Absolute bottom of the list of things to criticize trump for.

[–] satanmat 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I respectfully dissent.

Trump is second only to god to the crazy.

And please think objectively for a moment. If a Democrat did that. Fox et al would have it as their front page story; the leading news piece and would have banners flown around DC for the next four years.

You could not be more wrong.

I cant find it, but when Obama was sworn in, the justice fucked up the words and later on redid it at the white house. Fox news talked about it non stop saying that they didn't know what that was and that it meant Obama wasn't president.

Keep posting that photo and say trump ain't president because he didn't swear on the Bible and that musk is in control.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago

Nope, doesn't matter. He will destroy the country just fine regardless. Buckle up, it's going to be a hell of a ride. Good luck to us all.

[–] coyootje 18 points 1 week ago

It's because it's a regular Bible. He only swears on the special, limited edition, updated for fascist audiences "Trump Bible", coming to stores near you soon for the cheap price of $100.

[–] londos 18 points 1 week ago

Pointing this out to the people you would think would care about it won't work. They won't care. They'll dismiss it or make an excuse. Lean into it instead. "Good, at least I agree with Trump on that, it's about time to get the Bible out of politics." Let them struggle with themselves.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago

well, yea. he didn't want the capitol smelling like burnt flesh.

I think he didn’t want to risk bursting into flames.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

I mean, you know what, good for him.

[–] MrJameGumb 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The man's incapable of telling the truth lol they might as well swear him in with a copy of Spider-Man it wouldn't make any difference to him

[–] hakunawazo 3 points 1 week ago

Even that would have been a better outcome, if his only goal would be to make uncle Ben proud of him.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

That's because Trump is a REALLY GOOD CHRISTIAN!
