Four years after launching a push for more diversity in its ranks, McDonald’s is ending some of its diversity practices, citing a U.S. Supreme Court decision that outlawed affirmative action in college admissions.

McDonald’s is the latest big company to shift its tactics in the wake of the 2023 ruling and a conservative backlash against diversity, equity and inclusion programs. Walmart, John Deere, Harley-Davidson and others rolled back their DEI initiatives last year.

It's interesting how quickly these companies are sensing the environment is safe for them to do this.

I hope no one forgets this betrayal of humanity.

Or it's unsafe to not do it

You think the administration would somehow punish organizations to continue with DEI programs? What do you think that would look like? Maybe ICE raids, though that’s only going to work on certain people of color.

Just wait and see what happens with Costco, we'll have the answer soon enough, maybe nothing, maybe something, but I'm sure president Musk/Trump will try to do something.

They literally want to shut down whole government agencies for ‘wokeness’…

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Shutting down the government would be much easier than attacking a rich private organization.

. . . Yes? What are their (in this case, McD) political goals? Deny them. Extort them for millions. Support their incompetent more right-wing competitors.

...make a small comment on social media about it, leading to a boycott from their fevered masses and 4 weeks of nonstop conservative media coverage about how despicable of a company they are.

Let's not forget the tools they already use.

they were always in the same mindset anyways profit>humanity

[–] Maggoty 45 points 1 month ago

Oh no, the giant corporation that threw a rainbow filter on it's PR page for June turned out to not actually care about human rights?!? I'm so surprised! This is my super surprise face! I have literally never been more surprised!

Anyways...

More culture war distaction from the class war.

[–] homesweethomeMrL 8 points 1 month ago

It can be two things.

Now is the time to see which corporations really want diversity.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

None the answer is none all they want is money with money on top of that money, they do what think will bring them money and with fascist in power diversity won't do that

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago

You mean a corporation never actually cared about social issues and just does what is seen as overall more profitable for the time?

[–] eran_morad 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

DEI was always performative bullshit.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Performative bullshit is a good sign about where society is at.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I mean, what does it say when they don't even bother pretending anymore?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh no, another reason not to go to McDonald's.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, if this is what stops anyone from going there instead of their outrageous prices, they're part of the problem.

[–] homesweethomeMrL 8 points 1 month ago

I don't care about McDs in any way except for them to disappear entirely, but seriously - whoever's in their PR department is either unhappy, overworked, or possibly missing. All the McD's stories lately are Not Good.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I quit eating McDonald’s ages ago. What a trash establishment both in food quality and in policy.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Don't forget to mention the egregious prices.

$3 for a small fry.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Great point! Shitty low quality food at outrageous prices.

🎵Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Baaaa— I’m hatin’ it🎵

Crazy how much this aligns with who is in office.

[–] werefreeatlast 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I'd buy more expensive burgers if the Hispanic, Asian, and Black women behind the counter were all white blue eyed tall men. $20 dollar big Mac? Sure! So long as you can't make a hoop!

[–] werefreeatlast 2 points 1 month ago

No, actually I saw the movie, white men can jump and hoop. I'll have the fries.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it's sad how much we've conditioned people to ignore how much things cost and what they're really worth.

[–] Coreidan 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don’t remember the last time I ate their shitty food. It’s at least been a decade and I have no real memory of the experience.

The only time I visited one since then was to use their bathroom and only their bathroom. Thanks I guess.

Fuck McDonald’s.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Their food really, seriously, isn't that bad.

It's the price they charge for it and the amount we get that makes it not worth going.

[–] Coreidan -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Their food really, seriously, isn't that bad.

Maybe you find it appealing but we’re going to have to agree to disagree.

Their food is highly processed and all of it comes frozen. If you think this is the example of quality food then I don’t know what to tell you.

Their food sucks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not really. Food that sucks is what you find from street vendors in third world countries that will almost guarantee you get sick if you eat it.

McDonald's food is very simple and processing/freezing doesn't make it "suck."

You're just subscribing to hyperbole to fit in with other people doing the same.

I don't expect more.

[–] Coreidan -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

More like you’re trying to justify your awful taste in food.

Their highly processed food and high sodium content are great indicators of low quality food.

Calling their food “simple” isn’t accurate at all. High levels of processing degrades food quality through stripping out nutrients.

Just because you tolerate it doesn’t mean the rest of the world should.

Remember the “pink slime” that made up their chicken nuggets? Ya fucking disgusting.

Do better.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Umm, no. I think you're misconstruing what I say by "it isn't that bad." I'm not saying it's great. But it is decent. Compared to what other people have to eat, you're not leaving much room to go lower in your criticism of McDonald's.

It's okay, I don't expect more from you.

Remember the “pink slime” that made up their chicken nuggets? Ya fucking disgusting.

Alright, go away troll. Blocked.
