"I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July, because I had an infection in the south of France, and it's been four months now since I haven't been able to see," he said at the time, adding that "my left eye is not the greatest."

John added that there was reason to be optimistic about his eyesight.

"There's hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I'm kind of stuck at the moment," he said. "I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don't know."

I wonder how Stevie Wonder did it.

As any musician will tell you, you don’t really need sight to play. Learning to play without looking at the instrument is pretty important.

The biggest challenges are with how to learn / write new pieces since you can’t look at written notation. Stevie Wonder “wrote” by recording and playing back tracks. A surprising amount of sighted musicians do the same if they never learned how to read or write notation, or if they just hate doing that.

My aunt lives in the south of France and also caught an eye infection...

Guys is my aunt Elton John?

To be fair, the older he gets, the more he seems to be rocking Aunt Carol hair.

Old joke: Has anybody seen Elton's new piano? Neither has he.

Poor old sod. Wish him nothing but the best.

The good news is he suggests he will recover at least some of his eyesight.

And if he doesn’t, he can do an entire new farewell tour with even darker sunglasses.
