Summary

Donald Trump has nominated former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker as U.S. ambassador to NATO, a role critical to transatlantic security.

Whitaker, praised by Trump as a “strong warrior,” lacks foreign policy experience but is a loyal ally and critic of federal cases against Trump.

The appointment is unconventional, given Whitaker’s background in law enforcement.

NATO allies remain sensitive to Trump’s past skepticism of the alliance and his criticism of defense spending.

I guess we're not getting out of NATO then? Or did Trump ask him if he wanted a short gig?

If the United States leaves NATO they no longer have veto power. It's probably more advantageous to Putin to keep the United States in NATO and kneecap any efforts by the entire organization to resist Russian aggression than it is to simply remove the US from the organization.

Hear me out:

NATO members all get new phones, and when this douche-canoe goes back to Trump to give him the inevitable rim-job, they shut off the old ones, call a snap meeting, and make the decision to punch Russia right in the cocksucker. "Oops. Sorry, chap. Guess we forgot to tell you before you left. Anyhoo, tally-ho and off to war!

I think leaving NATO is one of those "we can leave whenever we want, but it's going to be more work than it's worth," kind of situations. We use a lot of foreign soil to project our might and as much as Trump has said he would pull out of NATO I don't see the guys that make billions making new and exciting ways to kill people being super happy about all that. Plus, he has bigly plans to deport everyone. So I am hoping NATO takes a back seat to that and those chuckleheads pull enough rope that when they do walk off the cliff it hangs them before they get to NATO.

Edit: a boy can dream lol
