It would have made more sense if they were of Japanese ancestry, but still an American citizen who grew up during WWII era.

Although, if that HAD been the case, they wouldn't be posting here. Because they'd be dead.

......I'm just now realizing that enough time has passed that statement doesn't have the same impact it should. I'm not talking about old age. I'm talking about how the united states would gather AMERICAN CITIZENS who have comitted no crimes whatsoever, send them to camps, and have them mass killed/arrested. Everybody talks about Hitlers camps, nobody talks about America doing the EXACT SAME THING, ROUGHLY AT THE SAME TIME!!!

Oh, me? No, I'm not of Japanese ancestry. I just like calling out Americas bullshit, because so many people like to think it's some high and mighty better than thou place which can do no wrong. It was founded by slave holders who claimed all men are created equally. It was then held for about 150 years before women were seen as anything more than property who weren't allowed to vote. It routinely throughout history told it's citizens what it means to be normal, and a real American. Anything else was considered unpatriotic, and unpatriotic people were the enemy. Do the McCarthy years sound firmiliar?

And now, we stand on the doorstep of a new presidency, of a man who self identifies as a fascist dictator, who has held public admiration for places like North Korea, and Russia, for their leaders ability to go unchecked. It would be one thing if this were a sneaky coup. Some one individual somehow someway snuck his way into power which is so often the case with dictators throughout history. But no. This was chosen. This was the American electoral collage giving him a landslide win, AND getting the popular vote. America wants this. America wants to go down this same path that we have gone down many times before, and each generation eventually comes to the conclusion that it's bad.

And no group is immune. You can't say "This is only white men who voted for him". No, this is men, women, whites, blacks, latinos, arabs, asains, everybody. This is EVERYBODY. We have chosen a road of fascism. We have told the world "THIS is what America is."

And for that, no. I will not consider myself a patriot who stands for the values and beliefs of this country, when those beliefs are that we all should bow down and accept our place in life.

FUCK

THAT.

Not that the internment camps were or are defensible, but we weren’t gasing Japanese Americans or driving them out by the truck/trainload and shooting them in the woods.

Yes, some died in the camps- roughly 1,600, but none through and intentional and concerted effort to exterminate an entire race, with the number of Jews dying in nazis germany roughly 6,000,000.

You don’t need to be hyperbolic. The internment camps were bad enough on their own; but they were not the same as the holocaust.

Just FYI, while the concentration camps in the US were absolutely inexcusable, destroyed communities, forced people to sell their homes and businesses and took people away from the lives they had built and everything the knew and loved, they were not extermination camps.

Of the 120,000 people unjustly incarcerated, 1,862 people died in the camp hospitals in the four years the camps operated. The current US mortality rate is about 0.8% (about 800 deaths per 100,000 people per year). So for 120,000 people (using today's standard, I can't find the rate for the 1940s), we would expect about 960 deaths per year, or 3840 in all four years.

Again, not condoning the US concentration camps in any way. But they were not death camps.

Tankies use this argument but ignore other bad history.

Either feds doing that ain't much better but these were not Europe or Asia style arrangements.

Just destroyed peoples lives and permitted nazi sympathizers, war criminals, nazis themselves to operate in us and EU post war.

he EXACT SAME THING, ROUGHLY AT THE SAME TIME!!!

uhh comparing the japanese american internment (a horrible crime where thousands lost their houses/businesses and were detained for 5 years) to the holocaust seems.... a bit short sighted and hyperbolic. We didn't gas the japanese. we didn't pry gold out of their teeth. we didn't stack their corpses.

it's still a hideous crime, but you're comparison is misguided.

I don't think you have to resort to that to see the comparison is specious.

Reminder that George Tekei is still alive and he was put in an Internment camp.

From a randon article:

Williams said that while in custody, Said admitted to researching how to conduct an attack on local military recruiting centers, offering his home as sanctuary for ISIS operatives, bragging that he would commit a "9/11-style" attack if he had the resources and attempting to produce ISIS propaganda.

"We stopped a potential terrorist attack from happening right here in Houston! Any day we can publicly say that is a good day," FBI Houston said.

Said is being held in custody but appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, his attorney, Balemar Zuniga, told Fox News Digital.

"The indictment only alleges that he supported a terrorist group through the production of videos and propaganda," he said, noting that federal prosecutors mentioned the plotting of terror acts but have not charged him with such. "None of that is alleged."

So no, he is being charged with conspiracy to commit a crime with a recorded confession, but it is possible the confession was coerced (but unlikely because he was actually producing content online on ISIS's behalf).

I think being in direct contact with another known member with similar intent would do it
