I don't understand! What does one stand to gain by attacking lemmy?
Not sure if there's a tangible gain to be had (apart from if it were Reddit interfering), but some people just enjoy being jerks simply for the sake of being jerks. Look at the whole The Lizard Squad situation with Xbox and Playstation awhile back, there was no reason, they just wanted to upset people for the hell of it
IMO, they think it's super fun to attack things that are popular for some reason.
Dopamine rush?
The thrill of transgression.
People coming here to check it out and it doesn't seem stable.
lemmy internally has SQL flaws that have not gotten much attention. A few days ago, over the weekend, lemmy.ca people studied some of the SQL and exposed a problem where every single new comment and new post on a local server updates 1500 rows in a database table where it should be updating just 1. There have been similar runaway SQL statements discovered. Fixes for the most recent issue are already on GitHub waiting for merge and publication.
I found this. Donβt know if itβs official. https://lemmy-world.statuspage.io/
It's official, it is linked in this community's pinned post.
It is official.
Well I'm able to see this 23m later, but actually the reason I'm here isnbecau lemmy.ml just went down this very minute.
Could be a ddos or mali revoking the domain
I've been getting Error messages the last couple of days. Sometimes I can't get into Lemmy.world at all but after some time it works again.
also is there a status site or mastodon account to follow? to make sure if the issue isnβt on my end.
See the pinned post on this community, if the instance is down, you can just google "lemmy.world status page"
@jagoan @JustineSmithies with how unstable lemmy.world has been, it's probably a better idea to move to another instance.
You'll still be able to see lemmy.world content, whether comments or images load is another question
