Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Especially teleprompters.

Both figuratively and literally in this case.

Obama was shit on constantly for reading from a teleprompter and the guys bookending him were completely illiterate.

I mean, look at how occasional mild flubs in Harris are blown up, while Trump sounds like a literal child who forgot their medication, and didn't do their homework, and it's everyone else's fault, and he's going to lie and Bs his way through it anyway. Somehow, Americans think he knows better on the economy despite the fact he is entirely incapable of articulating it. It's maddening. And when you point it out, someone calls Harris the R word, then says MAGA or TRUMP 2024!!!! What the Fuck is wrong with the world.

They criticize everything the Democrats do. Literally everything. They double down on anything that catches traction. The more traction it gets, the harder they push it.

Same same here in Canada.

Obama famously did a lot of his own speechwriting.

Every candidate reads stump speeches from a teleprompter. Every stump speech has some level of input from a speechwriter.

You can tell by the candidate’s delivery how much input they have in writing, and how much they actually understand and believe what they’re reading.

Trump just reads the words that show up, like he’s never seen them before, and then goes off on weird tangents. He’s like Bizarro Simon Whistler.

More like my classmates on a group assignment that they didn't do any work on until it's presentstion time.

Given that Trump tends to go on incoherent tangents, I'm honestly kind of surprised that he uses a teleprompter. I'm also kind of surprised that Trump is able to read

I can only imagine it flashes a topic and he meanders to it if anything. No way do I believe he's reading all that much less has it scripted or rehearsed.

“IMMIGRANTS”

Only in 200 point don’t.

Maybe also a picture because he can’t read words with too many letters.

The sign falling on him... Now if that's not emblematic of his error-prone campaign then I don't know what is.

And yet he's still statistically tired with Harris. The old man who's a senile, malignant narcissist, who has lots of criminal charges, has been impeached twice, is now an overt Nazi, and and who failed spectacularly in his first term (among many other negative aspects of his record and personality)... is tied in the polls with a healthy, intelligent, relatively young, middle of the political spectrum candidate who thrashed him in their only political debate.

Sure, Harris has some political baggage and isn't the perfect candidate. But holy shit, at this stage he should be trailing her by 30+%. The fact that he's not shows that this country is in deep deep political trouble.

It’s a symptom of the two party system. You vote for “your guy” even if he’s a literal corpse. Let’s get some RCV and proportional representation in here and we’ll see that effect go away almost immediately.

[–] Myxomatosis 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He doesn’t need a teleprompter for the stream-of-consciousness bullshit that spews forth from his syphilitic, dementia-ridden brain.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago

Lol .... that would be hilarious .... all that stream of consciousness bat shit crazy nonsense that he's been spewing for the past year .... was all pre-written and placed on a teleprompter for him to read.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

Republicans have effectively captured the stupid, there is no need in their operations for accuracy, consistency, truth, or anything like that.
