It's the guns. No reason anybody has to treat guns as sacred.

It's a lot of things. Not just guns. Switzerland has similar gun ownership rates, but different gun culture and mental health issues as well as a lower wealth divide and less suffering/impoverished people.

Switzerland ALSO has extremely strictly enforced laws on gun storage, harsh restrictions on where you can buy and store ammo (and how much ammo you can have), and a licensure system for private firearm ownership.

Maybe we could look at those.

Agreed. We should take a holistic approach to solving problems.

Talk of regulations, actual enforcement of existing laws, or just better training and some people only hear "take my guns away!" They want free market rules without consideration of what that causes.

We have loads of reasons. You've just decided to oversimplify and cast those reasons aside because you live in cartoon land where people can't do illegal stuff.

It happens so often in the states, that's not even news.

"There have been more than 400 mass shootings across the US so far this year..."

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's one of four today SO FAR, and while it's a big one it may not really make news. 7 mass shootings would stay on the news cycle for a few days, though, unless an 8-shootings day pops up... and they do.

Edit:

  • 28th July
  • 4th July
  • 5th July -- why yes, that is 16 mass shootings in two days.
  • 23rd June

and one day of NINE MASS SHOOTINGS on the 31 March.

The Five Points South district is known for its nightlife. The shooting occurred on Magnolia Avenue, Mr Fitzgerald said.

Witnesses who were queuing outside a hookah and cigar lounge on Magnolia Avenue at the time told local news site Al.com that some of the gunfire sounded as though it came from a gun converted to be fully automatic.

I live in Birmingham, just a couple miles from Five Points South. It's not often I am in the area this late at night, but it's not unheard of. I'm glad I wasn't last night.

I feel for Mayor Woodfin. I know he wants to make positive changes regarding gun violence and gun culture, but the state government wouldn't dare consider common sense legislation because MUH FREEDOMS.

Yeah: glocks recovered nearby have a plastic mod that causes the pistol to empty a mag in like a second.

We can either address the person or the guns. We can't ban stupid.
