Currently on holiday in Croatia; beautiful country etc etc, but what the hell is wrong with your drivers?

Outside of cities it feels like the only speeds known to mankind are 90km/h for one lane roads and 130km/h for those with two or more.

A speed limit of 80 or 100 on a highway? Completely ignored, unless it's a tunnel, then 100 is ok.

Some section of road outside of a city says 70, 60 or 50? Ignored, just drive through with 90.

Beautiful two-lane road (D424) from A1 to Zadar with a limit of 80, me doing 90 because that's OK somehow and most other cars overtake me with 20 km/h more at least.

So, what is wrong with your drivers?

I had a really pleasant drive through Croatia, it didn’t seem too crazy to me. This was more than a few years ago though. Drove from Plitvice Lakes park to Split by way of some rural as fuck road through the woods, eventually getting on some highway, A1 I believe. My expectations may have been altered by the years of driving in Italy.

Going through the tunnel on A1 was a cool experience. One side was green, temperate, and humid, then we cut through a tunnel, the other side was brown, dry, and hot. One minute of driving completely changed the microclimate. This was northeast of Zadar.

Edit: unrelated to driving but my girlfriend and I at the time went driving downstream from Plitvice lakes to find a place to swim. Ended up pulling off the side of the road near a river and walking upstream until we found a spot. We didn’t realize it was behind somebodies house but they came out and let us swim anyways. A super cool experience. We literally wandered into their natural river pool and they didn’t care.

I know the one you mean! It feels like switching biomes. I went down that motorway with my parents when I was younger and althpugh the views were nice, it felt like it went on for ages.

When signing my BMW lease, I was told the signs show the suggested minimum speed

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

That's expected of BMW

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Not croatian but they do have some stupid speed limits in a lot of places and they also like to drive fast so thats a deadly combination.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure this is the case in most of the Eastern Bloc. Definitely in Poland

The drivers seemed fine when I was there, but I'm from the US where no one follows any of the rules of the road. Fuck all that shit tho. Not important. This is.

Ask a local for a good place to get this dish. You have to call it in like 4 hours in advance but it is fucking worth the wait. When we went to Plitvice Lakes National Park, the guy that drove us out there and was a guide of sorts recommended it and asked if he wanted to stop and get it on the way back. We did, and he called it in on the way to the waterfalls. We stopped at this Podunk middle of nowhere restaurant and I was sussed af, but damn if it wasn't one of the best meals I ever had.
