RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

I figured the bots were all offline to replace "Biden" with "Kamala" in the code.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 2 points 6 months ago

Hmmmmm........how about we change the nominee from Harris to someone else just as the bots come back online. Only to do it again, and again, and again, only to last minute "SURPRISE MOTHER FUCKERS!!! IT WAS HARRIS THIS WHOLE TIME!!!"

The meme communities are still loud as hell.

(And I’m helping to keep [email protected] alive.)

Ignore poster above I am interested in the best trains.

[–] aeronmelon 2 points 6 months ago

Of the newer trains in Japan, I like the gold-colored refresh of the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line with the 1000 Series.

Or Spacia X, the newest Limited Express train running between Asakusa and the mountains north of Kanto.

But as far as classic sets go, I absolutely love to see the various old (now retired) Express trains with bull noses and maroon & cream color schemes.

whitepeopletwitter and 196 on various instances are always fun.

Personally, I like more specific sci-fi and fantasy groups:

There needs to be a new community of cats riding in the gondola of a G-Scale model train. I'd watch so many videos about that!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Hmmm a discriminatory train-community!

Thanks! I just got back from a fun river float trip. It was a ton of fun!

I'm here! Not going anywhere because this year has been kind of expensive. I just watched a video of a woman making mushroom soup inside a watermelon over a fire, and like, why?

[–] Pronell 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I love that it's how soups and stews used to be made.

Cut open a gourd, scoop out the stuff you don't want, throw in some other stuff, and put the thing over a fire to cook.

Watermelon mushroom soup, however, does not sound tasty.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That's why it was very strange. Gourd soup sounds great though.

[–] Pronell 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

They didn't have a pumpkin, so they substituted in a watermelon and intend to leave a bad review for the recipe.

[–] Crackhappy 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

This is how I cook. I try new things then leave a bad review for myself when it doesn't turn out tasty.

[–] Pronell 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

My wife says there's a recipe for a reason, but to me a recipe is just a starting point.

[–] Crackhappy 2 points 6 months ago

A recipe is just a vague suggestion. The true adventure is trying to figure out how to integrate durian into every meal.

Biden coup is over... We are back to normal.

There was a huge spike in activity over last few weeks. Felt very reddit

Spending the holiday at home. Started a new job (well, same job, new employer) recently, so there was a bit of uncertainty about my work schedule, so we decided to take it easy at home, and instead go visit family up north when the kids have vacation from school in October.

I don't mind the delay, I just wish we could've done it in the summer instead - I haven't had a proper Arctic summer in years. It doesn't feel like summer to me when the sun sets before 23:00

Still here, still posting nudes

[–] Crackhappy 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

No nudes, send dudes. No really, this is Zelensky, send dudes!

You'd think it'd be louder when more people have more free time.

[–] cosmicrookie 2 points 6 months ago

People at work don't work. They are on lemmy and dating sites

[–] verity_kindle 4 points 6 months ago

Same to you! You are kind to say so.

[–] synapse1278 4 points 6 months ago

If I was on holiday I wouldn't be much on Lemmy. But I am at "work" and I am in severe shitpost withdrawal !

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

If only being on holiday meant that I'd be less online. If anything, it's the opposite.

For me bussines has been quiet for a few weeks and I haven't gotten many calls from customers, so here I'm.

[–] Macaroni_ninja 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

No annual leave till september-october. I hate the crowded summer season, so usually work most of the summer. Its quiet anyways.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 1 points 6 months ago

This reminds me of my Aunt trying to tell me in 2020 "Oh, you should go to NYC right now! It's great because everything is closed because everyone has Covid."

and I said "But.....then I'd just be in a big city where everything is closed, and everyone has covid."

This at a time before the vaccine came out, and Covid was still very much a deadly threat. Yeah, my aunt is USUALLLY smart. She didn't think that comment through at all.

Currently on holiday in the Cotswolds, UK. So long you stay away from the main touristy spots it’s good, even though we are in the middle of the tourist season.
