In 2020, Kripke told fans that his “rough idea” for The Boys was “five seasons total,” acknowledging at the time, “But I also know better than to say how many seasons a show is gonna have.” Kripke’s last show Supernatural lasted for 15 seasons.

Interesting parallel since supernatural was also supposed to be 5 seasons with the narrative arc all neatly wrapped up. Then they changed their mind and dragged the dead body of the show against the pavement for another 10 seasons.

I mean I get you but supernatural did a surprisingly good job of it. I kept watching till the end. Granted I was a bit disapointed the characters had not all died in season one. I was sorta hoping initially it would be brutal and the main characters would be different every season. Bit like walking dead.

Don't get me wrong, I watched every single episode (multiple times) but compared to the first 5 it was like eating fast food. Enjoyable but left you wondering if leviathans spiked the HFCS.

yeah it definately lost a step over time but it was a bit like the simpsons and still was better than many alternatives. I would rank the later seasons of supernatural vs the majority of stuff just spewed out to fill content for the streaming services. Some of the late season making fun of itself stuff was funny to. I still remember where the nerdy hunter is driving listening to bev biv devo

I guess they just didn't have the heart to quit.

Pretty sure kripke only wrote the first 5.

The first 5 seasons were the strongest but it wasn't outright bad until pretty close to the end.

Good! I wasn't looking forward to watching it drag on longer than it should. The last season ending on what was basically "nothing changed!" was a downer. Hopefully this season will be a banger.

Edit. Oh man, I was certain the last season was season 4 already. Now I'm not anywhere near as excited.

The Boys was always too ugly for me, like I got the "real real" on the superhero tip, but I never grooved with this show, wasn't ever pleased watching it. Didn't make it past the first season.

Gen V on the other hand, was outstanding, and I really can't square that circle, the characters/actors/writing/situations dunno were just more palatable, presented in an entertaining way, to me.

God knows what's going to happen to that show now after the untimely death of one of it's stars.

Ahhhh man. I just looked this up and did not know about Chance Perdomo's death. At 27 years old. That is awful.

Exact opposite reaction here. Caught up on the Boys and wanted more, but I gave up Gen V halfway through the third episode. Felt like I couldn't relate to the characters.

I really appreciate how fully realized the characters are, but the gore and gross-out elements, the just generally stressful situations, the flippant attitude toward humiliation, and the dystopian attitude toward death make the show a tolerance watch for me. I'll watch the next season, I think it will be worth watching as always, and I enjoy the commentary. I just don't think that I could say I'll enjoy watching it as I normally use that word.

God damn it, Your telling me this year's season won't be the last?

Wait. I thought last season was 4? It wasn't!?

Well shit. I was stoked this season was going to be the final. Out with bang and all that.

I really think The Boys is for Superhero TV what The Watchmen was for Superhero Comicbooks.

I really think the boys comicbook was for comics what the watchmen movies were for Superhero Movies.
