MODERATORS

One American is dead and another was left begging for his life after a botched coup was stopped in its tracks in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Chilling footage caught the moment two of the plotters were seized trying to flee the country across the Congo River before groveling for mercy to Congolese soldiers as they lay bleeding in the street.

Marcel Malanga, 21, accompanied his former refugee father Christian to the central African country from their home in Utah to lead the coup against the autocratic government of President Felix Tshisekedi.

But the father was shot dead and the son was arrested alongside two American co-conspirators during the bungled putsch as the US government scrambled to distance itself from involvement.

I'm not at all surprised that the Daily Mail thinks that cannabis is relevant to this story, but I'm sure as hell not going to click on the article just in case it really is.

I wish the mods would black-list or white-list sources for news. We can argue what should or shouldn’t be allowed but some outlets—like The Daily Mail—are obvious trash. For the vast majority of news there are other, or even multiple other, sources.

I understand where you're coming from, but I'd really prefer for community downvotes and comments to neutralize that problem, I think it's a good thing to know what the reactionary morons that write for things like this and the NY Post are saying (though, yeah, the idea of other people reading it and maybe taking it seriously concerns me, so again I understand where you're coming from)

'CIA stooges killed during CIA directed operation'

Kind of doubt that. The president is reviewing the mining leases to China that the previous president made. It's not really in the US' best interest to undermine that.

Wait am I reading that right?

No, if you're reading the Daily Mail at all you aren't reading right

Reminds me of the time I went to score a bag and found out my regular guy had bungled a coup in Rwanda...

Flying half-way around the world to attempt a coup with your son and his two buddies? Sounds like an awesome Tuesday activity.
