I donβt know your life situation OP, but my wife and I have found it very helpful to designate one night of the week as our βweekly meeting.β After the kids go to bed, we spend some time together, catching up on the previous week and talking about next week. We also meal plan and make a grocery list. And both of us usually have a few things written down that we want to discuss, like upcoming trips, major expenses, etc.
Itβs really nice to have Thursday nights as a time set aside just for the two of us to focus on each other and all the little things you forget about during the week. YMMV, of course.
I'm not yet at this point in life, but I will take this advice with me for when we start living together
I am not a very organised person with regard to time, but my wife and I plan a few days ahead and it works (without children). We don't have a dedicated time for the planning itself, nor do we have regular meetings of any sort. We mostly wing it, but in a mostly responsible fashion, by which I mean we always end up doing what we set out to do, even if slightly late. Generally, I go by this : whatever it is, do it as soon as you can. Good luck
Nice try, assassins
I dont have a routine other then work. Just whatever I feel like doing in the moment.
M, T, Th, F: work from home, have lunch with my husband (if work schedule allows), play with kids when they get home from school
W: work from home, have lunch with my husband (if work schedule allows), badger kids to do music therapy, play with kids
Sa: business meeting with my dad, play with kids, nap, grocery shopping
Su: play with kids, nap, play with kids
I'm in charge of all adhoc things outside of the house and financial. Husband is a stay at home parent and does all the home stuff.
Monday: Get kids ready for school and drop them off. Travel 45-60 minutes to work, work 9+ hours and travel back. Eat dinner and help clean up (wife cooked after she got home from work). Get kids ready for bed. Work another 3-4 hours. Sleep.
T-W: Leave for work an hour early. Work 9+ hours. Get home and help make dinner for the family if not yet made, help clean up, get kids ready for bed, work another 3-4 hours, sleep.
Thursday: Get kids ready and drop them off at school. Work from home for the day. Help make dinner. Help clean up. Get kids ready for bed. Work some more, sleep.
Friday: Get kids ready and drop them off. Travel to work and work 9+ hours. Travel home. Either get ready to go out with the wife or, if we're staying in eat dinner and help clean up. If staying in, spend some time with the fam before sleep.
Saturday: Both wife and I are off work so we run errands, take the kids to do something fun, visit family, home projects, etc... Saturdays are busy.
Sunday: Wife is working, spend most of the day working on home projects (yard work, laundry, cleaning). Make dinner, get kids ready for bed, sleep.
Do it all over again.
Wife works in retail so does a lot of shopping for household needs and groceries throughout the week. She also cleans the house and works on home projects on her days off if she's not running errands.
Are you happy?
A simple yet loaded question. Overall I think I am. I spend a lot of time working and commuting but I'm in the growing years of my career and working hard to prove myself. The late night work is usually things I enjoy doing but don't have time for during the day and I'd otherwise be sitting in front the TV so I might as well make money.
I make time for family as well. For example leaving early for date night every now and then, taking days off for family events, going on family vacations. It's important to have balance.
If I were to pick an area of my life that I'm unhappy with, it would be friendships and hobbies but I think most of that is due to undiagnosed mental issues. I don't make connections easily so friends have always been hard. I have one good friend that I've known for almost my whole life, every one else is an acquaintance. The only hobby I have is the same thing I do for work. I don't really enjoy or get excited about anything else.
Monday thru Friday, work from home. Go out to dinner 3-4 times week when my wife isn't working, eat at home when she is. Thursday we go to a Mongolian restaurant every week (it's so good). Friday night through Sunday is either projects (cars or house stuff), events (car shows or autocross), or just lazing around, gaming, etc. Monday we do our grocery shopping.
Seems simple but it works, and I'm always trying to do something productive. I don't watch TV or laze around that much.
Monday: exercise, work from home, do stuff with the kids, bring kids to bed, do some schoolwork or watch series.
Tuesday: exercise, work from home, wife teaches at night and bring the kids to bed.
Wednesday: work from the office, a hour and a half communite (back and forth) so i bring a good book. Currently reading American Gods. When I come home I do some homework or and watch a show.
Thursday: exercise, work from home, wife has dog school after dinner.
Friday: work from the office, usually some drinks after.
Saturday: usually some gardenwork or otherwise some work outside. Kids go to sports and stuff.
Sunday: every other sunday I drive a truck to deliver goods on a regular route. I'm working on my bachelor, so the other sundays are usually family visits and studies. Sunday mornings are for folding the laundry while I listen to my regular radio show.
Every morning I do the dishes after I brought the kids to school and every other day I run the washing machine. My wife does the groceries, which is every other day, sometimes more and she picks the kids up from school.
So my life is pretty busy but boring, just the way I like it.
