I would also say that cameras were probably not that common to be held by kids back then either. I would say there is a good chance whoever took the photo was an adult as well.

The picture is a little blurry, but there's like a 95% chance he's holding a beer and lit cigarette too

[–] partial_accumen 19 points 11 months ago

Also, that beer is NOT his first beer that day.

[–] jaybone 5 points 11 months ago

Looks like Bubbles.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

I don’t think he is but I’m going to pretend like he is

[–] [email protected] 32 points 11 months ago (3 children)

This picture predates safety. Back then you just had to not think about getting hurt and you were probably gonna be OK.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart 10 points 11 months ago

It still works like that.

[–] Serinus 9 points 11 months ago

That dude has 9 kids; he figures it's okay to lose one or two.

[–] afox 4 points 11 months ago

Every time I use the bathroom.

[–] Illogicalbit 19 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Is the kid on the right crying?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 months ago

He's experiencing biblical levels of awe. Because that jump is awesome.

[–] mojo_raisin 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Me and my friends did this all the time, I can't believe my little brother is still alive (I never landed on him).

I can't believe my little brother is still alive (I never landed on him).

Well there's your mistake.

Old dude's been wanting peace and quiet from the neighborhood kids for years and thinks he might finally get it.

[–] Tolstoshev 16 points 11 months ago (2 children)

That’s the cool uncle who smokes weed.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He is taking a break after setting up the ramp.

[–] Tolstoshev 5 points 11 months ago

After the bandaids are applied he’s taking everyone to McDonalds for hot fudge sundaes.

[–] Anticorp 9 points 11 months ago

That's every parent from the era. Even in the 80's this was just ordinary every day kid stuff.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

“Did you guys reinforce the ramp?”

”No, we didn’t have time.”

… “Cool…”

[–] LordCrom 2 points 11 months ago

And that's how you learned to reinforce the ramp.

[–] Donkter 15 points 11 months ago

He was just as curious about what was going to happen as they were.

[–] dohpaz42 10 points 11 months ago

I would have been one of the ones laying down for the biker to jump. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to knowingly allow my children to do this.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Idk, it looks pretty fake tbh. If it really is old, then they probably just overlayed the boy on the bike during the darkroom process.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Maybe fake, but I have no doubt this happened many times. We did this exact thing in the 80s with BMXs, there were injuries, we did it again.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Oh for sure, it's just that this particular image and especially that particular ramp don't look all that feasible. The leg on that thing appear to be a brick on a cinderblock on a milk crate.

[–] UltraMagnus0001 7 points 11 months ago

Hey I did that. Im cool 😎

[–] dejected_warp_core 6 points 11 months ago

Adult? Well... that's Uncle Charlie. He smokes a lot of some funny smelling tobacco, but he's cool! He knows a lot of things like how to fix cars, how to collect baseball cards, how the government is spying on everyone, how to get lucky with the ladies, and he helps us with our math homework. He also says our neighbors are "commies" but I'm pretty sure their name is "Connor". Right now he works at the meat packing plant, but he plans on going into management (whatever that is) once the right opportunity comes along. He says the secret to his success is growing a real thick mustache. Really, more of a big brother, yanno?

[–] OhmsLawn 4 points 11 months ago

That's the engineer.

[–] jaybone 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

This seems like a good way to kill another kid.

[–] stanleytweedle 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

idk, as far as ways to kill another kid go I'd say it's a 3/10 at best. Lot of prep work for a mediocre body count.

[–] jaybone 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This is before kids were shooting up schools.

[–] stanleytweedle 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah but some german dude took out a whole town worth of kids with just a flute like 600 years ago. Definitely had better methods available even without modern firepower.

[–] ReluctantMuskrat 2 points 11 months ago

You need lawn darts for that.
