Yeah, that’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.
Catastrophic Failure
A catastrophic failure is a sudden and total failure from which recovery is impossible. Catastrophic failures often lead to cascading systems failure. The term is most commonly used for structural failures, but has often been extended to many other disciplines in which total and irrecoverable loss occurs, such as a head crash occurrence on a hard disk drive. Such failures are investigated using the methods of forensic engineering, which aims to isolate the cause or causes of failure. (Wikipedia)
Well. The front didn't fall off, at least.
There's got to be restrictions on what materials bridges can be made of
Will they have it back up on time for morning rush hour?
Morning rush hour has already started, but it doesn't appear that the bridge is repaired yet.
In the longer version you can see the ship lights go out for about 30 seconds prior. It seems plausible that the ship has a power system malfunction and could not recover in time due to inertia.
From the article...
The ship’s crew issued a mayday call moments before the crash took down the Francis Scott Key Bridge, enabling authorities to limit vehicle traffic on the span, Maryland’s governor said.
... and ...
The six people still unaccounted for were part of a construction crew filling potholes on the bridge, said Paul Wiedefeld, the state’s transportation secretary.
A senior executive at the company that employed the construction workers said Tuesday afternoon that they were presumed dead, given the water’s depth and the length of time since the crash.
It really is incredible. With the bit of vagueness about the vehicles in the water, I thought they were expecting to find more, but glad they were able to stop traffic in time.
Wow, went straight into the piers. Oof.
Now with the addage: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
That's some intense stupidity. Hope everyone involved is alive and uninjured.
It also could be explained by mechanical failure.
Report just released stating that the ship lost power prior to the collision.
They’re calling it a mass casualty event, but no numbers on deceased/injured yet. Absolutely terrifying.
Cannot imagine being on that ship, unable to stop, or being on that bridge this morning. Really hoping that there are some survivors, but given the time since the collapse, I think we’ll be hearing more about victims.
With the ship barreling toward the bridge at “a very, very rapid speed,” authorities had just enough time to stop cars from coming over the bridge, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said.
They rescued at least 2 people from the water according to NBC, one in serious condition, the other released at the scene. Looks like at least 6 more missing though.
Aye, I'm reading that now. I grieve for all of those people involved. :(
The port will most likely shut down because of cleanup, so this fucks more than just car traffic. Fun times
Yeah it’s the biggest port for importing vehicles to at least the eastern US. Here come more excuses to raise the price of cars( and probably eggs, because why the fuck not profit off the misery.
Ay my video i got from the live stream! For anyone interested heres the link you can go and see how things are.

Im not sure how much longer till the crash will be on it, i believe it writes over after a half a day or so.
