Giant Parachute!

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (3 children)

I don't know what they're called, but those little scooter boards (upside down, next to the tote of basketballs in the center).

When you saw those were out, PE class was gonna be lit.

Also, I'm pretty sure our school used them to wheel the trash cans around when not used in class. We were a poor school, so it's possibly also the opposite of that.

Came here to say the same thing but I was gonna call them "those boards you'd sit on and inevitably roll over your fingers"

The finger crushers!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago

The scooters and the parachute were my two favorites!

Thanks!

Of course!

It brought back many auditory memories of these things looking up a picture of the ones like we had. Looks like they have molded plastic ones now...with handles! Crushed fingers build character! 😆

We had a variant of dodgeball that was pretty fun, it's standard rules (if you get hit you're out, but if someone catches it's good, etc.), but on each side there were two open barrels that counted as goals. So not only do you have to eliminate the opponents, but you also have to guard the barrels. Called it Dynamite Ball, Good times.

Weight room!

I actually hated gym during junior high because the "coaches" were idiots.

But lifting was the fucking tits.

Ended up taking weightlifting as my elective my last two years of high school, not just because I loved lifting, but the coach was just a great guy. I started out in bad shape, because teenager, barely able to clean (a type of lift) the freaking bar correctly. End of junior year, I was doing my body weight at that with ease.

Senior year? The group that took the class had kinda turned into a bro group in a good way, even when we hated each other outside the weight room. We spotted each other with zero bullshit, supported each other when maxing, it was awesome in the way a good gym can be. Even had a girl in the class, and everyone treated her respectfully, but still helped her get herself where she wanted to be with her routine.

It was cool that the ones that were jerks outside of the class were able to at least be good lifting partners inside, which was mostly because the coach made sure that was the culture of the class.

Gods, just this little cinder block weight room with no AC and a sketchy heater, a bunch of metal, and sweaty teenagers lol. But it was my favorite class.

The square skate carts were so fun and dangerous!

How is it possible to smell this picture?!

[–] RizzRustbolt 3 points 4 months ago

Smell is linked to multiple other senses. Memories tend to store the smell of something multiple times.

When those platforms with the 4 wheels came out.

This might be the first picture I've seen that I am genuinely can't tell if it's AI or not

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

I'm pretty confident its real but I could be wrong.

I'm trying to read rhe basketball in the center. "Smart"? "Smort"? Never heard of that brand before and a quick Google search doesn't show anything relevant. The yellow one in the bottom right looks almost like it says "Gopher," which, again, doesn't show anything online. I'm going with fake.

I found a higher res image:

It appears to be a variation of School Smart Gradeballs basketball:

[–] PP_BOY_ 1 points 4 months ago

Ah, cheers! False alarm I suppose

[–] stankmut 2 points 4 months ago

It looks like someone turned the saturation up.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

The colors are a bit odd.

I do think it's real, though, and it looks exactly like the gym room at my kids school.

[–] anon6789 4 points 4 months ago

Crab Soccer! Especially when used with the gym dollies so you could really haul ass. It was great when you nailed the class jerk with that giant ball and sent him flying!

Parachute day, and we also had these little platform scooters you'd sit on and wiggle the handle left and right and it would propel forward.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Back day . Idk if that is what you were asking .

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Parachute day was always fun.

EARTH. BALL. EARTH. BALL.

The dancing week. My school taught us various dancing for a week. A specific type per year. We did square dancing, swing dancing, and box waltz.

Other than that, I liked badmitton.
