If there was ever a light and casual “eat it while you work on your laptop” meal, this has got to be it!

[–] rcv 2 points 2 years ago

The proximity of that syrup to the laptop is killing me

I don't doubt the flavours, but it's always seemed like a dry meal and hard to eat.

Never tried it though.

Could you shred the fried chicken and mix it with the batter before making the waffles? Probably lose most of the crisp then..

I'm all about the mouthlogistics

You would be right, but that's where the syrup comes into play.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Does the syrup go.. on the chicken? 🤔

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

The syrup goes on everything.

  1. The waffle should be buttery and syrupy.

  2. The chicken should be juicy.

As long as you have a good syrup that isn't very thick, that balances your dry bit. I tried it for the first time at a wedding about 5 months ago. Was not a bad experience at all, but I also do not like fried chicken. I'll likely never order it again, but I could taste the appeal.

I've never had chicken and waffles and this point I'm too scared to ask an American why this isn't a classified as a sandwhich as well.

I think you could definitely make it a sandwich with a piece of chicken between two waffles, but I’ve only ever seen it before as a waffle topped with the chicken. I guess that could be called an open-faced sandwich?

One of my favorite meals. Excellent with a pat of butter and a drizzle of maple syrup or honey. Damn I need to get a waffle iron.

Would you consider chicken waffles a savory or sweet meal?

[–] Krompus 4 points 2 years ago

¿Por que no los dos?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

It's both at the same time and it's absolutely amazing.

A non-sauced pulled pork with maple syrup on waffles is also quite tasty

[–] running4croissants 1 points 2 years ago

Okay now I’ve got to try making this!

Are you supposed to get some chicken and some waffle in each bite? Or is this just an excuse to add some maple syrup to your fried chicken? Not hating just asking. I myself like to dredge the remaining maple syrup up off my plate using bacon after I'm done with my French toast or pancakes.

Oh ye flipping gods I love chicken and waffles. This is one of those meals where if you mention it, people either look at you like you’re insane or you make a new best friend who is also part of the chicken and waffles fan club.

[–] regex1883 2 points 2 years ago

Looks great. I've been making it air fried lately and it comes out good

So you like chicken & waffles, eh? If you're ever in the Chicago area, or Indianapolis, visit Kuma's Corner and order the Sourvein. It's a 10oz burger topped with deep fried chicken tenders, bacon, cheddar, waffle strips, maple syrup drizzle, and raspberry aioli, served on a pretzel bun. Be sure to add a fried egg when ordering to complete the experience. It is exactly as thick as you think it is, but holy shit.

You’re brave, if I had a stack of chicken and waffles that high I wouldn’t have my laptop in falling distance.
