So they kicked the migrants out and don’t seem to care about who was taking advantage of them?

[–] Death_Equity 27 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You mean the economy? The American economy is dependant on illegal immigrants to operate without runaway inflation.

[–] muntedcrocodile 4 points 9 months ago

This guy gets it. As some guy in bladerunner said every great advancment in history was built on the backs of a disposable workforce.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 9 months ago (2 children)

But entrepreneur-landlords are the backbone of the American economy! Did I say backbone? I meant bone-cancer.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Did you read the article? I have sympathy for this particular landlord. He's in deep shit for offering shelter to fellow migrants the system has clearly failed.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I did and beyond just the shelter, the lack of ventilation and proper plumbing. I don't think you're saying that this landlord should be hailed as a hero, but I'm also not saying that he should be condemned. You're right, he tried his best and failed, but my point was more about the other landlords in New York. The actual residential ones who would rather take a loss and get a tax break than even temporarily keep one victimized human out of the elements.

There is sooooooo much available housing in our damn country and people are dying on the streets because the one landlord trying to do anything is a criminal and the ones who help build the problem are entrepreneurs.

Shoot, they'll go after anyone trying to provide aid

Dude was just trying to give people somewhere safe to sleep, with what little he has, and your comment is vilifying him. The article intimates he wasn't even charging them, just trying to do good.

[–] FlyingSquid 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

If more landlords gave desperate people places to sleep, maybe they wouldn't be as bad.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That would be the most basic start towards redemption.

[–] FlyingSquid 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I didn't say good, I said not as bad.

And giving anyone who needs it a home is a great start.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

giving anyone who needs it a home is a great start

Agreed, but giving a home because you have extras usually implies you're a societal leach.

God bless America (as usual).
